It's a filly for Zenyatta!!
Yes, and she’s had easy textbook foalings every time, and very much enjoys being a mom.

I do wonder if they’ll leave her open this year, though, to try for an earlier foal in 2016.
What would be the point of an earlier foal? April 20th isn’t late.

Nothern Dancer and Lookin at Lucky were born late (both May 27th). Mucho Macho Man (June 15th) has a late foaling date. The whole early/late thing only matters for the sales and I don’t see the Mosses sending any of Zenyatta’s first few foals through the sales ring.

BTW, foals bred this year will be born in 2015.

Yes, but if they left her open this year and bred her in 2015, it’d be 2016.

Good point re: breeding for sales vs. racing. The Mosses are obviously in no hurry to rush their babies into training.

Ah, you’re quite right about the date/year.

Lovely filly ~ wonderful pic !

Here we go again with all the idiots clamoring for a “break” because 3 foals in 3 years is overbreeding.

Can’t they just enjoy the moment and be glad that social media has continued to allow Zenyatta to be shared with the fans. It’s more than we get for many mares.
I try really hard to understand that many of these people don’t know much about horses or livestock, but some of those comments blow me away every time. Broodmares who are in good shape have foals each year and this certainly isn’t a cruel or exploitative existence. What are they thinking, honestly?

Sorry folks, but Henry Dailey doesn’t have an open stall next to the Black!

Z appears to be a fabulous mother who delivers lovely, healthy babies. No reason to “give her a break”. RA, for instance, is a totally different story though.

It’s just a matter of anthropomorphism gone just a bit too close to home. Face it, the majority are women and that “barefoot and pregnant” thing is perhaps a bit more than most of them want to think about.

The primary object of a species is to reproduce and make the next generation. If Z were a wild horse she would be having foals every year until she died, and if she were really lucky one of them would live long enough to carry on her line before it died.

In Z’s case, the accommodations are first rate. She gets to play around with a teaser stallion, have a quickie hook up with a tall dark stranger, hang with her gal pals for 11 months and then play mom. When the kid gets to that obnoxious stage, well we’ll just ship him/her off to boarding school and it’s back to swapping racing tales, watching soap operas on TV and not having to watch her figure. What’s to object to? And face it, she’s got the perfect hips for the job.

Great post! I honestly don’t know why the Mosses are on social media with her. But then again I don’t know why some of those people are following Zenyatta in the first place.

For some of the others, they should repeat often “I am not a horse.” and occasionally “Zenyatta is not a woman.”

And there’s a whole lot of gushing, “Oh Zenny, I love you soooooo much”, as if Z can read.

Z leads an exemplary life.

Zenyatta has looked great in all the pictures I have seen of her since she retired. Always in good weight, shiny coat, bright eyes, etc. She certainly looks happy and well cared for. I figure if her body needs a break from pregnancy, then she’ll be barren that year. It’s nobody else’s business how many times the Mosses breed her. That is between the owners and the vets.

This should be plastered all over the internet. It could be changed to the obvious “Horse(or any horse’s name) is not a woman” It would solve many problems.

OK, I admit to having a mad love affair with this mare. She is still stunning, and regal and has just an aura that is rare. Had it when running, has it now, she knows she is special. That said, the filly is just fabulous. Solid, cute, confidence oozing out of that little body. Love her.
Congrats to the Mosses, who CLEARLY think Z is a very special horse, and who care about her greatly. Every horse should want to be owned by them…

They posted some new pictures yesterday. 14Z is an absolute stunner. I’m officially smitten!

Isnt she just the (Queen) Bee’s knees? Lovely foal.
