It's addicting! 2 hunts and I am making excuses

Excuses to take off work:lol: I have always wanted to hunt but never had any horses that I thought I could actually take hunting and not embarrass myself on. This year I have a barn full of horses with super brains and I plan to test them all out.

So far I have joined my friend who rides with an informal group on the eastern shore of Md/De. I also joined Wicomico hunt club but have yet to get out with them. I have been taking the CANTER MA horse I have been retraining for them and for the two hunts we have been on he has proved to be excellent. I already knew he would event and thought he would hunt based on our trail rides but I had been warned you just never know. It is amazing to watch the hounds work and learn all about the customs. The informal hunt group is really small and there are only 4-6 horses in the group and we ride right with the hounds or close behind which is very exciting. They have been great at explaining the rules so far so I am enjoying the education.

I bought a nice hunt bridle already and find myself looking for the appropriate hunting clothes/tack on ebay. I call the hunt line several times a week and get excited about all the fun things that are coming up. Today I bought a few books about fox hunting on ebay. Oh boy:D

Now I have a dilemma. Wicomico is cubbing at the C&R center which is 5 min from my house but it is on a Wednesday. I am already thinking of excuses to take off work. I will be joining my friend again on Tuesday with her group but I have several horses so I could make it all work. Oh boy I sense a serious addiction has been started.

The goal of the season was to put lots of mileage on all the sales horses but I have found Dixie to be so enjoyable and sane I will have trouble selling him. I hear a good hunt horse is hard to find. Hopefully, my other two do just as well as he has.

Now off to research what to wear when it is really cold. I need to plan ahead:lol:

Whoops I forgot to add some pictures of the hunt today- http://dixierumble.wordpress.com/

Oh, dear, you look very, very pale to me. Probably you were exposed to a virus yesterday, nothing to do but let it run its course, but these things peak 3-5 days after exposure, so I think that you will be very, very sick on Wednesday. We all know that with viruses, antibiotics don’t work, one simply treats the symptoms to make the patient more comfortable.

Or you can have an eye problem and not be able to see your way to work…

Now off to research what to wear when it is really cold. I need to plan ahead:lol:

Land’s End has Polartec 100 women’s shirts, both crew and turtleneck, for about $25. Under a wool melton coat, that should do the trick! For breeches, Tropical Rider “Toasties” are THE BEST! They don’t make them in white (yet), but by popular demand, they do come in a shade close enough to tan! “Toasties” are by far the best cold-weather britches I’ve used. Very warm, very durable, and lots of options.

Have fun, Jessica!

Oh dear! You have it bad!! Don’t expect your addiction to go away–it lasts forever! :):)

WELCOME to hunting !!

Yes, its very addictive. I plan my teaching schedule around hunting so I can go out on Tuesdays once in awhile  We hunt tomorrow and I actually have Veteran’s Day as a holiday - yeeeha !

Wonderful hunt yesterday at my favorite fixture, High Ridge Game Preserve in Westminster, MA. We were out for 2 hrs, the hounds did great work and since there are alot of big fields, when the hounds hit, boy do they scream along. Great fun galloping after them :):)

take a vacation day

or call it a mental health day

Hee, hee, I love it. Dixie sounds like a very cool horse and sure looks terrific in the photos.

I began hunting again last year after about a 7 year break. At the end of the season in March I sat down with my boss and said “hey guy, we need to negotiate my Wednesday work day”. End result, until the breeding season kicks in full swing, I’m off on Weds. I may miss the last couple mid-week hunts in March but by then will have enjoyed a wonderful season. Hope your year goes well too!

Too funny!

Looking forward to seeing you out on Wed!!! Glad you are having fun!!! That is what it is all about!!

Go!

Tee hee hee…you know what they say!??
Even a bad day hunting is better than a good day at work!!!
Go!! Life’s too short!!
Me bad!:yes::cool:

I save my vacation days for hunting on Wednesdays…and it’s worth it!

It’s like crack cocaine.

I’m a supervisor, and if you were on my shift, I would totally recognize hunting as a proper use of sick time.

Thanks for posting your blog!

The informal group went out today and I took my other CANTER MA horse, Indy’s Wolf, and he was awesome. In some ways I think he was better than Dixie simply because he was a little less alert. I have had him for almost a year now and am shocked he hasn’t sold because he does a bit of everything. He is that dreaded 15.2 h height but hopefully people will see him out hunting. I think foxhunters don’t mind a bit smaller horse. It was another lovely day but the scent was not as good and the hounds were not staying together as a pack. I think the last hunt where we saw seven fox did not help the situation.

I don’t think I can get off this wednesday but I might have to discuss it with my boss:lol: I work for the gov’t so flex schedules are hard to come with certain jobs.
