It's all coming together :D

Hi everyone!

For the first time a long time, I need a brag post lol. I’ve had a CRAZY year. EPM, navicular, and multiple abscesses made for minimal riding until July, and I had surgery in Sept.

But somehow, through it all, we’ve come out ahead. I was goofing off over fences with a friend a few weeks ago and we decided to put the last fence of a course up and see if the horses could handle it. I wasn’t worried about him clearing it but he’s not known for being behaved and I figured if I get left behind he’d just dump me.

He was so good! Didn’t even blink at my landing on his neck. Then I had an epiphany - I don’t have the same horse I did 3 years ago, when he was sound and in full work (and very difficult to ride). He’s broke and pretty trustworthy now, and I need to stop being afraid of him.

So the next weekend, when I jumped, I left the fence up and even raised a few more around it. Again, he was perfectly behaved.

This weekend resulted in this! https://youtu.be/uCDcOb8TyW8

I know it’s not perfect, but I’m over the moon here. The first fence is probably only .95m but the rest are measured at 1.10m. My eq needs work, but I feel like I followed him pretty well for my third time at this height! He’s a powerful jumper, not easy to keep up with.

I’m having surgery again Dec 14th, and I’ll be out for a minimum of 12 weeks. I’m trying to find a free lease for him so we don’t lose all the progress but before then I intend to jump every weekend :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:.

General advice/comments/etc on the video welcome but be nice! I’m mostly just showing off.

You guys are super cute! Great job on the comeback!

Congrats! I had a similar moment this week, too. A feeling more than a physical achievement, so not one of those things strangers may think was even that great, but such a milestone for my horse and me in trusting one another.

He looks like a joy to ride. Congratulations that is because of you.

Oh yay!! Huge congrats. You both look great and it sounds like you’ve worked so hard and its paying off!

Good for you! I love that exercise myself, too. Very nicely ridden.:grinning::+1:
