It's always nice when horses meet up with old friends

thelitterbox.yuku.com

It didn’t go away, just moved to a more secluded place…

And the funny thing is, everyone denies it exists, yet everyone and their Uncle knows the link…

JSwan, I also don’t care the slightest what is said over there. But the members should keep the demeaning, rude, ridiculed, purposely misconstrued lies over there -

And not bring their ignorance to COTH. Simple as that.

If the OP or her vet was figuring feed in ounces, 1.5% is indeed almost 2 lbs. Not of straight grain, but beet pulp, alfalfa pellets, and senior feed, which probably has soy in addition to grain products.

Everything has gotten so twisted up because people are jumping to eroneous conclusions.
Thanks greyarabpony, for your understanding of the situation. I posted trying to explain what I was saying, but by then, I believe, many people just didn’t want to “understand” anything I posted.

This thread was started in hope thet people would share horse reunion stories-- as you can see, if you scoll through- very few posts have really been about that topic.

h2 really i wouldnt know, as for ignorance thats something i am not where horses are concern done to many in my life time

op forget to mention that water counts for 80% of there body weight and if not given enough as in clean fresh water every day as in day and night then a horse can drop weight quicker than you can say jack robinson

GLS,
I didn’t mean it in “horse” terms… Sorry, should have been clearer.

I meant the people who bring the BS from there to here.

Jswan, actually there is a link to it…you must be approved to be a member. It just went from a public board to a private one, thats all.

I agree, about the tlb gang not bothering you one bit. u r too :wink: Some of us are not really bothered by others…because we have self esteem and/or age on us:winkgrin:. Unfortunately, there are others who are affected by gang bullying. Because of my involvement in management and education, this is an area where I am sensitive to its impact on some individuals.
I don’t think I am paranoid at all, paranoid equates with fear, and that ain’t me. Concerned, yes. Activist, yes. Educator, yes. A paranoid person, uh, no.

I also agree the board is great, but I also think that cyber bullying is a serious issue and is only going to need to be getting more attention. We are currently implementing rules in a school system to make it less subjective and more quantifiable. My comments to the COTH board were aimed to be ahead of the pack(so to speak) and to be proactive. I honestly do not want to see any school district go through losing a kid, or hear of another person committing suicide because of cyber bullying. It does happen, even if its not your back yard.

I don’t think anyone, God, I hope not, wants to do something like that, intentional or otherwise. I think if people try and play nice, then we all win. I certainly know how to get into the rattlesnake pit just as well as anyone. Confrontation was never my weak suit. I have no problems with going after someone in response to their posts attacking others. Although, that shouldn’t be news to anyone.

Regardless of whether EFF is feeding her horses correctly, using them appropriately, etc, etc. there is no need for the type of behavior that some on here have demonstrated. Unfortunately, some of it is quite apparent it comes from a group effort.

I am surprised you are stating you are not part of tlb gang jswan, since I was told you were. However, I would find it a challenge that they would bash you…for what, your opinions are usually intelligent and thought out. Bullies only go after those who appear weaker than them, not stronger. You do not appear to me to be an easy target. So, I have a hard time believing you were bashed. sorry, but just a hard statement for me to buy into. Regardless, your input on this thread did not have the same demeaning tone as most of the others posts.

Katerine, really, if you have a weight issue, that is your problem, not mine. You have not been a very nice person to some people on this board, and you seem to think you are above it. You are not my dear.
Maybe you need to go out and ride a horse like I am about to do. Enjoy.

And no, I have no reunion stories to share so stop asking.

Good luck with your horses and I hope this hurricane season leaves you unscathed.
Could you please explain to me how the quote you posted above from me “chastises” anyone?

I simply posted that

“I’m not good at math --that’s why there is a feeding chart with weights already worked out for me by my vet in my feed shed on the wall. I just didn’t feel like going outside to get it.”

Sorry you are offended that I keep asking for reunion stories, and you have none to share, but that was the Original Intent I had when I started this thread- for it to be a thread where people could post horse reunion stories- though I would have enjoyed reading dog, cat or other pet reunion stories, too

I got a call from a friend who had regretfully sold a Shetland pony her daughter had outgrown about ten years ago-- to what she had thought would be a permanent home.

They sold him because they could not afford to board more than one horse-- they had no land of their own. Her daughter had “graduated” to a larger mount and they needed that stall for him.

She went to a horse auction over the weekend- yep- you guessed it-- there was Toby – She bought him back for $20! We don’t really know how old Toby is, but he is OLD- he was old when she bought him the first time. Well, they have their own five acre place in the country now- so Toby HAS his permanent home now. She can’t wait to surprise her daughter who left for college last Thursday.

Thanks for the good wishes concerning the hurricane season- I’m sure all of us in states along the Gulf Coast have our fingers crossed – and probably the people along the Eastern seaboard have theirs crossed as well.

The weather here has been a bit strange for the season- just like before Katrina and Gustave. The hummingbirds have suddenly began flocking in droves- like 40-50 birds at a time --to my feeders-- just like before the two previous storms I just mentioned–Hummmm.

lost me h2 , urm but as there always is a but that can work two ways you know
a lot on here that do the very same as in full of it

i also think those that dont ask and answer with logic and commonsense
and experince as it does show when one answers are more likely to be honest
and proven horsepeople within there own right
as i have never found someone with in depth knowledge of horses
ask a question or posted what do i do for xyz

as they know what to do, and help others acheive there objectives or to further there knowledge
some are so quick to blame the horse, when they dont look at themselves that it might be them casuing the problem as in perhaps doing something wrong or lack of confidence or not understanding something etc etc

for exsample when one posts as the op has then its pretty obvious something is being addressed correctly ie feeding, and working the horse

so imgaine a horse is fed as deemed as op is was doing when it started out 20lb of feed a day, then the horse cannot eat more than 4lb at any one sitting of grub a day like that as someone else said it will kill him at that point in time

why - becuase a horses stomach is directly behind the lungs so the lungs cant expand if the stomach is bloated
and or the horse is underweight so the gut is tiny so ti expands when full ad as they have a different type of gut to ours as they have a hind gut then as food passes through will become blocked so therefore colic can arise and colic is and can be fatal
if one doesnt offer water or the water is dirty or off, when feedin then its can reduce the horse salvia that he needs in his system to pass the food thorugh his body
if one works the horse directly after feeding then its back to reason of thelungs not be able to expand andthe horse will die from over exertion

but then i know nothing to some

so it is important to a horse of how you feed it and what you give it
as the op has changed that often

then one would want to put them on the right track so the orse benifits and can live a longer life , one would hope as well that sometimes older horses teeth need looking at more often as sometimes they have diffculty chewing food and agin can effect there bodyweight as if they cant chew they are not getting all the nutrition they need

As we’ve made clear many times before, we do not moderate this site based upon the actions or statements of people on other sites, active or closed, so please drop the whole “litterbox” vein of discussion.

When users post information about themselves or their horses, they open themselves for comment–and sometimes unwanted advice or even critique. We have a diverse, helpful and vocal community here that is often adept at picking up on aspects of training, horse case or other issues that can be affecting a situation. Their advice may be helpful, it might not be–as moderators, we don’t interfere with this exchange of opinion as long as it’s falls within our posting policies–it’s up to each user to utilize or ignore what they choose. We don’t decide what advice is “right” or “wrong.”

We don’t have rules against being abrupt or rude, for example, because there are too many gray areas that it would be impossible to be remotely consistant in moderating for those characteristics, though we do expect users to be civil to each other.

Based on the OP’s posting history re: this horse and her opening comments of this thread, a discussion developing re: feed and management was not inappropriate. Threads do not always develop as an OP would like or imagine them to; however, we also don’t generally close threads upon request.

Because there are issues crossing over here, Huntertwo, though you intended it as a “lesson,” your comments to Katarine in another thread re: helmet wearing initially were fine, for example. The subsequent needling was not, nor was fivehorses comment about weight, which she later removed–thus causing some of the confusion on that thread and this one.

We’re going to close this thread as it’s no longer related to horse management or reunions.

As always, if a user would like us to look at a thread/post, we welcome the use of the alert system to draw our attention to it, though we may or may not agree with your assessment regarding whether action needs to be taken. If you want to discuss a moderation decision further, you can contact me privately via PM. The public forum is not provided for debate re: our posting policies or moderation decisions, and ultimately, if someone does not agree with the policies of this site, there are others to choose from.

Thanks,
