He may not be a household name anymore. But he is still the real deal.

I’ve met the man a few times back in the 80s. Fortunately I was introduced by a mutual good friend of his. Which gave me a bit of “street greed” with him. “if you have done the walk, you can do the talk”. I admired him then and still do now. Wish I had a horse worthy of sending to him.
When asked about “The secret to his recent success?”
“I’ve changed my feed program. I’m feeding faster horses,” he said
Made me chuckle that’s usually how it works.
This made me chuckle also. Found it this to be true when I started out as a Bloodstock agent in the early 80s. Even more so now. Especially now that I am one of the “old guys”.
“I’m not going to cheat you and I’m not going to B.S. you,” he said. “If a horse can’t run, he can’t run. I’m going to tell you exactly the way it is. Funny thing in the horse business, I can show you the most successful people there are in outside businesses, and then they get into horse business and they’ll listen to the biggest B.S.-er around and get sucked in by them.”
“Youth” may have its advantages in some ares of the “job description” with some jobs/employment these days.
But age and experience will always trump youth when it comes to horses. Regardless of the discipline.
