Wanting to know the pros and cons of these trailers… as they appear to be a very well built trailer. Looking at a newer LQ 3 horse. Thoughts?
While I have never owned one, if you talk to actual Jamco owners, they absolutely love them. You don’t see many of them used because owners tend to hang onto them.
Top of the line trailer. I always love looking at them at Equine Affaire - just a super high-quality built trailer.
If I was looking to buy and could afford one I’d buy one in a heartbeat. I have a Kingston which I love and have been very happy with so no need for me to buy a Jamco.
Echo all of the above as that they are top-of-the line, well built trailers. However, when I was trailer shopping, someone on this board suggested taking your own tape measure when looking at trailers. Jamco measured their trailers outside to outside giving the buyer a misconception as to how wide the area was for the horse —other trailer manufactures clearly state “inside” or “outside” measurement. Since Jamco does use a thicker, sturdier better insulated wall, the measurement was off by 4-6 inches. That was both for height and width. I asked the dealer --he said it was “how they did it.” May be different now, but always measure the inside of the trailer!
That’s interesting, Foxglove–I had that perception from looking at my friend’s Jamco–it always looked narrower than my Trailet to me, and I assumed it was an optical illusion!
Lovely trailer though, and not narrow “enough” to make a difference if I were shopping.
Appreciate the feedback… this trailer is impressively built and the LQ interior top notch which includes a slide. I’ll have to verify the measurement but honestly, it likely will not sway our decision. Key note, trailer has never been used (dealer trailer) and is technically “new” with full warranty so that’s a plus in my book. Curious to know what the market is on these trailers as I cannot find really any LQ models on the used side to compare. I’ve found some older ones but nothing that looks like the trailer we are looking at 2012-2013 range. I do know that the Jamco trailer folks moved their production to Indiana for a few years when folks were wanting a more American made product and where built by Showhauler, but the company did not exchange hands, just moved production. You just do not see any used LQ trailers out there so it’s hard to tell if our deal is really a “deal”. :concern:
You realize if you buy it, we are require to be shown pictures, right???
I own a 1997 Jamco GN 3H slant. Bought it in 2014. I LOVE this trailer. My trailer was recommended to me buy a 4-Star dealer.
It is incredibly well built and well designed, hauls wonderfully. My dad is a welding inspector and was quite pleased with the welds and quality of this trailer. Mine is a step up (maybe one day I will put a ramp on?) and I love how the step is a long, thick rubber strip and there is nothing a horse can get caught on. I had a horse get a wrap caught on an Exiss step up once…could have ended in disaster.
I have a telescoping divider, 60/40 doors, stud wall, 1st stall escape door, and all dividers are padded which is a huge plus. Dressing room is quite large and roomy, plus a back tack. I just wish the back tack was collapsible.
All in all, I’m quite pleased with the trailer and I don’t think I’ll ever get rid of it!
GORGEOUS!!! Congratulations!!!
You’re not seeing a lot of used ones because Jamco exited the US market when the economy collapsed back in 2009 or so. They still exist in Canada, and right now a few dealers are bringing them into the US again for new models.
I had a Jamco 4 horse head to head with a dressing room. Solid, well built trailer. Bought it in 1999 and sold it in 2012 for 80% of what I paid for it. Two of my students own them and love theirs, too.
