Those FB pictures are haunting. That circle of disturbed earth around the dead decaying horses is a testament to the suffering they endured once down I hope that bitch rots in hell
Possibly some failure in her thoracic sling? Extreme muscle wasting causing her sternum to drop.
I saw a link to Johnson saying that two of her horses were hog tied and had their throats cut. As if she didn’t know who tortured those horses? There’s more going on here.
There was a horse found tortured/mutilated on Atkins road not far from Johnson’s farm several years ago. Of course, she was full of outrage.
Several interesting posts if you search “justine fitzhenry facebook”. I don’t have FB so I can’t see them all. And don’t have enough posts yet to share screenshot. But very much demonstrates a pattern.
When I was there she had a barn full of 2 & 3 yo horses that didn’t get any turnout or exercise. Just living in a box. I cared for the stallions and mares, and they all went out every day and had decent care. But overall the vibe was appalling.
The longer I sit with this and look at the pictures, the more memories that come back. And with some years and maturity, I see how really f’ed up and awful it was.
She freeze branded paint marking onto horses, so her solid paint-bred horses would be “paint” for the show ring and sell for more money. She had an ancient broodmare that was blind, skinny as a rail, lame on all 4 feet and she kept breeding her because she made such nice babies and was well bred/accomplished herself. The young horses stuck in their stalls for YEARS. The mare who was an orphaned foal, she grew up in a stall and never went out because no one handled her for three years and she was dangerous.
I was just a dumb kid far from home with not a lot of options, and landed at Johnson’s place after the job I moved out to Clements for didn’t work out. In hindsight, that’s a shitty excuse. But here we are.
I hope she rots alone in a field.
She also seems to have some knowledge or awareness that there was some kind of feed issue. I notice that her photos are carefully selected to show only horses in fairly decent weight.
Also, she says they’ve “had a struggle” the past year. A lot of us have had struggles this past year but I don’t believe any of us have dozens of decomposing horse carcasses scattered on our property.
I checked my FB friends list and I was surprised how many Paint horse owners are FB friends with Justine. Most of them are hundreds of miles away from this hellscape, so I’m doubtful they had any idea what was going on. But I wonder what they think now.
I am just appalled at the cruelty.
Jan Henderson was out on bail and supposed to be in court yesterday, 1/24. I can’t find any info on what happened on the news. Anyone else want to give a try at finding out?
The San Joaquin Superior Court website isn’t great. I don’t see anything related to the current case, unless it would have been filed in Nov 2024?
There is a pending felony case from 11/20/24, case # STK-CR-FE-2024-0012881. But I didn’t see any filings or other details. Maybe someone else will have better luck.
@AJ_STX Thanks for searching.
This is where I found she was to go back to court on Friday. Thought maybe somewhere on the court website would be a list of cases for the day. I never have good luck finding things like this.
Sorry! I was way too sleepy yesterday, lol.
Justine needs to rot in jail too. After the bust, before she took down her FB, she was casually posting like nothing was happening and all was okay. There is no way you stay on that property and turn a blind eye to whats happening. Jan Johnson is also incredibly wealthy and continues to spend her money with ease, its definitely not a money problem.
Both women need to rot in a cell.
Can you please edit yours, too? Just not a good conversation here.
Thank you for keeping us updated. The laws in CA are pretty strong, aren’t they? This woman has a lot of money so I’m sure she’ll get the best lawyer.
That’s it. Thank you. This is a really weird story. Combined with some of the positions those dead horses were in and I think there’s much more going on here. That woman is a crazy psychopath. What happened to those two horses is unbelievable. What else was going on? Did she kill her own horses and dump them? Were these incidents arranged by someone who hated her? She was busted for a rooster fighting ring as well. Lots of money in gambling. I don’t know shady people hanging with shadier people and the animals always lose.
For all the things mentioned, that is why I, and others, would like to know what happened at the court house on January 24.
Some of the carcasses look like they’ve been there a long time. Like months or even a year or more. If over time they all somehow died “naturally” (somehow I highly doubt this), why weren’t they buried? With her money, she doesn’t have access to a back hoe?
The way they were just cast off, some still wearing slinkies and blankets, is just so disrespectful and cold. And there was even a dead, decomposing dog. Who does that with their dog?
It is indeed very sick and twisted.
Even if they all somehow died naturally over the last year, or even two, that is an incredibly high rate of death for the size of that herd. Crazy high.
My money is on neglect for most. Possibly foaling complications for a couple. Possibly horse tripping or some other “sport” related torture for some.
When I was there she had one mare die from west Nile. It was full blown neurological, truly an awful thing to witnes, before she had the vet out to euthanize. That was the only horse death in my time there. Sounds like she got in over her head and lacked capable help that gave a crap.
When I looked at those horrible photos I assumed the horse’s with ropes around their legs had the ropes because that is how they moved the body to the dump pile.
Not sure why they would not remove their rope but we are talking about people who left blankets and such on too, so clearly removing the rope was not on their list of things to do.
I have not looked at photos and don’t plan to. HOWEVER, quite unintentionally I ended up seeing the Oakdale Equine Rescue this afternoon. It turns out this kind man who connected me up with my new pony AND trailered him 2 hrs for baby boot camp, lives next door. He also happens to be a very active volunteer there. Shout out to Earl!! I only saw the horses from the road but it’a a nice place and they’re getting food and TLC. Just thought I’d send that first hand update.
