Jan Tops Buys Palloubet D'Halong For $15 Million
Or that Grand Theft Auto game that just came out that took 250 mil to create…

…heading out of the rabbit hole now, stat!
They just made over 1billion in sales in not even a week. Worth the initial investment I will say.

Wow, impressive! Haven’t played it yet - just lost my SO for a week to the stupid thing haha.

ETA: Sorry for the derailment. Back to Jan and his new horse.

You do hope he is in the end lined up with a sympathetic rider because say what you will, she had that in buckets and he rewarded her for that. The French horses (to over generalize) are not known for being such smooth mouthed, flowing horses as he appears to be for her.

And indeed, a horse of a lifetime is worth someone is willing to pay for it -you do not mass produce them. Is not that why we love horses, as they are so irreducibly individual.

omare, Edwina has just done fantastically on Itot du Chateau

They don’t get much more French than Toti. Awesome little horse who was well known before she got him and did even better with her. I think she gets along rather well with the French horses (to overgeneralize, because love them).

You are right the best of matches but as someone suggested he is a horse dealer although he does not seem to sell horses out from under his wife (smart man!)

Very smart man, lol.

I’m definitely excited to see where this new partnership goes… The journey is the best part.

While I wouldn’t buy a horse for that kind of money, I certainly wouldn’t mind selling one for that!
Well, just ride like someone with very little understanding of the basics and you too can sell one for that.

I haven’t a clue what you’re trying to say, so I’ll just ask. Huh?

To say this horse is stunning and amazing seems like a colossal understatement. I can’t even imagine buying or selling for that $$ but I play in a different ballpark. I do think some of you underestimate the rider. If you ride long enough, you will find people who have the ability to bring out the very best in a horse even though they may lack some of the technical skill. Sometimes a more technical rider will get on the horse thinking they can make it go much better, and it just doesn’t happen.

Congratulations to the new owners. I certainly hope the horse stays with Edwina.

Hey, some people just slog around lacking basics and others are happy to be internet legends in their own minds. It takes all kinds to make up a planet full of different people, right?

LOL, I don’t think you can make it around a 1.60 course on a horse who jumps out of his skin and have very little understanding of the basics.

DMK = genius.

We are all entitled to our opinions. I’m sticking with mine.
I think Edwina will have great success with the horse.

Wow! I wish I lacked the technical basis and sucked as much as everyone here claims she does! How many of you placed second at Aachen again?

I was referring to a previous commenter who was very keyboard analytical about the rider’s alleged “lack of basics” who had lots of eye for detail including apparent failure to understand how to ride to the base of a triple or correctly approach an oxer, which personally I found interesting since I doubt that said astute analyzer has ever sold a horse for even $1 million, let alone 15.

But I could be wrong.

Anyone remember how we all gasped when The Natural sold for one million? Seems so quaint now lol.

Got it

I know nothing about these people, but in my mind the conversation went something like this:

Buyer: I love this horse and I want to buy him. Would you consider one million euro?

Seller: No! I have taken him to this level and expect even more. We do well together and I am attached to him. He’s not for sale at any price.

Buyer: Well perhaps you would reconsider. Five million?

Seller: No… I’m sorry, but he’s not for sale at this time.

Buyer: He is an incredible horse. I would be willing to pay ten million euro.

Seller: Um, wow. I really don’t want to sell him…

Buyer: Why don’t we settle on eleven?

Seller: Uh, Sold.

Short article on her feelings about it. http://www.noellefloyd.com/janika-sprunger-talks-about-losing-palloubet-dhalong-their-amazing-bond-and-the-biggest-sale-of-the-year/

What gets me is the people who commented against her after the article. Why would you NOT sell a horse for 15 million? You can take care of your family and all your responsibilities FOREVER on that kind of money. A rider or a horse can get injured and be done any day of the week. If riding horses is your job isn’t that the point? To develop the horse to the best of your ability? Selling it is not a bad thing. It’s not like she sold it to a kill buyer or something. I mean he is hopefully going to go on and do great things–like win WEG next year.

Good for her.

Agreed. Though after taxes and probably commissions it’s probably a LOT less than $15 million.

And as I believe has been noted, it’s not like she sold him to the slaughterhouse for $15 million, or to a horribly abusive rider.

I thought she made a good point in the article about the value of sponsors seeing this type of $ involved.

“Hansueli Sprunger, Janika’s father, said that Palloubet’s sponsor/owner George Kähny had repeatedly turned down multi-million dollar offers as he had really wanted to keep the horse for Janika, with the World Equestrian Games and Olympic Games firmly in his mind.”

Another good article on prices in general.
