Since Jan Tops coaches the Qatari team, no one should be surprised about this announcement.

I hope it is a successful team and wish them the best of luck.

Interesting. Well, I guess there is love but then there is money

Or…maybe she rode him at home, and they didn’t mesh well?

I know, it’s almost like his day job wasn’t “brilliantly successful seller of upper level horses” or something equally ridiculous…
Can you imagine what the horse was sold for to Qatar? Given that Jan Tops (as a serious businessman) would need to make at least a bit of profit…
Sorry not to see Edwina ride him though. That matching seemed like a great one.
I assume the horse was always intended for Qatar. I wonder if the seller knew that too. It’s one thing to sell your horse to Edwina Tops Alexander.

Short article on her feelings about it. http://www.noellefloyd.com/janika-sprunger-talks-about-losing-palloubet-dhalong-their-amazing-bond-and-the-biggest-sale-of-the-year/
What gets me is the people who commented against her after the article. Why would you NOT sell a horse for 15 million? You can take care of your family and all your responsibilities FOREVER on that kind of money. A rider or a horse can get injured and be done any day of the week. If riding horses is your job isn’t that the point? To develop the horse to the best of your ability? Selling it is not a bad thing. It’s not like she sold it to a kill buyer or something. I mean he is hopefully going to go on and do great things–like win WEG next year.
Good for her.[/QUOTE]
Because when you get a once in a lifetime horse like this that you’ve brought along , and you have WEG, Olympic, and World cup goals for yourself, you ride them , you don’t sell them …

All evidence to the contrary?
I’m sure Candice King had an idea of Davos’ potential, and of course Presley Boy and Oki Doki were known entities. The list of top horses that get sold because either their connections or the rider/owners are in the business of making money is probably longer than the list of people that hang on to the horses they have bought along from the beginning. Even Cedric, Sapphire and Hickstead were bought after the started their careers.

Of course you might also like to retire at some point (and with riders that can sometimes come a lot sooner than they might like) without that whole ugly “specter of poverty” deal hanging over your head, in which case $15 million dollars + will buy you a whole lot of peace of mind.
At that level, sentiment isn’t as affordable as it is for those of us in the peanut gallery.
The Global Champions Tour in Doha is very diligent about putting video up promptly for those who want to watch the new combination in action in the CSI2** classes (although their Thursday round, if they went, is unrecorded). There’s also good Reed watchin’ and a grab-your-popcorn go by Kamal Bahamdan in the 5*****.

Are you mocking Kamal? If so, I wonder how many NC rounds you have jumped clean and how many Olympic rounds you have jumped without knocking down a rail.
Isn’t Kamal the one who has a day job in the financial sector? I mean sure, it helps to be able to afford a nice horse, but talk about a true ammy - and when he was out there jumping those huge fences in London… holy crap. You know at least the rest of the people there probably spent a lot more time in their week jumping big sticks and practicing. He had my respect for sure.
The spoiled brat from KSA, notsomuch, though…
Watch Kamal in the 1.45m at Doha today and listen to the announcers talk about how much he works. He had a nice round in the 1.45m. It was not his best riding in the 1.50m but not deserving of the unkind words by nutmeg.
Cedric, Sapphire and Hickstead were all bought as very green 6 and 7 year olds.
You are right, I was being snotty. I should reserve my nasal excretions for Jan Tops. Hope Tess is all right after those extraordinary efforts. She is an incredible mare. And I broke my own panty-wadding rule about discussing issues, not people!

Yes, I know that, but they were not raised and or started by their riders, which was my only point.
