Jay Shuttleworth has passed :-(

this is an end of an era. Under his gruff exterior he was a kind man and a great horseman

Very sorry to hear this. He was a legendary figure here in the Northeast. Still have and use a number of his custom bits.

Very sorry to hear this :frowning:

Oh, no. Bit making is a dying art…what a loss.

I’m so sorry to hear this.

Very, very sad. He was a master at bit making and a very kind man…

I’m so sorry to hear this. I didn’t know him but was very familiar with his reputation and as F8 says, it is a dying art, which is very sad.

Very sad news. I can’t imagine how many miles he peddled that bike of his around the assorted showgrounds over the years.

Sad news- he really was a national treasure. Loved seeing him at shows pedaling around.

This makes me so sad. He was quite helpful with my mare when we were playing with bits. Such a kind man under that gruff personality.

Sad news, I’ve wondered how he’s been doing. I’ve kept the 2 bits he made even though the horse they were for has long since retired knowing that they were irreplaceable.

The horse industry has lost a great artisan. His bits are amazing.

My condolences to the family. I hope they have bronzed his bicycle.

@thebitmaker, advertising is not allowed on this forum.

And its in very poor taste, IMO, to advertise on a thread announcing the passing of JS and praising his work.

I cherish the fulmer sided Mullen mouth I bought from him.

Agreed. Utterly lacking in class, while being extremely memorable at the same time. @thebitmaker will never get my business because of it.
