From today’s news…
I have never given my dogs store bought treats and I’m especially glad that I don’t after hearing aboout this. Actually, my dogs just love cookies so they get peices of the cheaper people food cookies. Oatmeal, gramcrackers, animal cookies…No high sugar stuff and only small pite size peices.
Terrible - and it looks like one of the brands markets itself as “natural” - so what natural additive are they applying in China that is fatal to pets?
My dog is not really a chow hound - treat motivated type - luckily I do not have any treats at home to worry about.
And on the China / chicken note - laws passed so that processed chicken products, produced in China - can now be sold in the US for HUMAN consumption, without any country of origin information - so lets say you buy some frozen “chicken fingers” - well those suckers may have been produced in China from american chicken meat.
Basically, processed chicken products really can’t be trusted any more, as they may be from China - and well, you can’t trust food products from that country.
I suggest posting this in the Menagerie forum as well.
I used to buy the Waggin’ Trail treats for my dog from Petco all the time, until about a year ago when someone posted an article on Facebook about them poisoning dogs. I stopped immediately. Now I only give her treats made naturally in the USA. There is a local dog treat bakery that I buy most of her treats at. We never had a problem with her being sick from the WT treats but I’m glad she doesn’t eat these treats anymore. Very scary!
And then there is Beneful dog “food”
I watch the labels for my pet’s food as well as for mine. Sometimes you really have to do a search to find out where the stuff is made. I discovered dog cookies from Blue Dog Bakery. Kroger carries them. They’re not cheap, but the list of ingredients has absolutely nothing bad in them. In fact, they are healthier than most of the people food. They’re made in Washington state I believe. Smells good too!

Thanks. I just posted this in the Menagerie forum per your suggestion.
I’m another who feeds only products made in the USA, and only from trusted sources. It may cost more, but it’s cheaper than vet bills AND provides for happy, healthy animals.
that fact that the FDA has not been able to figure out what chemicals / molecules are causing this is damn scary. Modern technology can usually figure these chemical signals out pretty well.
it must be pretty bad
I would urge anyone who wants to give their pets treats, to stick to home made or traditional human items like crackers or carrot.
certainly makes us look at the back of our own manufactured food and herbal items.
I will gladly pay more for a vitamin product made in north america

Blue Dog’s great.
I know someone who works for Blue Dog and he told me that the treats are made at the same facility that human cookies are made at!
The chicken treats are “sterilized” using radiation. What do you want to bet it is related to that
