Still looking for a better fitting saddle and I have picked up a Jim Sands saddle. I woud call it a reining saddle. Never heard of this saddle maker before. Can anyone shed some light on the quality and price for a used one. It seems good quality, but covered in white stuff from what appears to be bad cleaning. It looks like reside left by Horseman’s One Srep. Anyone care to help me out?
Hello Paulosey! I think we may have come across the same saddle (I live in Lakefield and found it at Peterborough Tack), I have it on loan for this week to see if it fits my horse Trooper who is a paint. I can’t seem to find any information online about Jim Sands saddles aside from the few that are posted to sell. I think you must have cleaned it up because I saw it a few months back with that white stuff all over it, then went into the tack shop yesterday and it looked beautiful. Anyways it sounds like you also have a paint (assuming it was for him), how did you find the fit? I recently went to a saddle fitter clinic, so know that there’s no point in purchasing if it doesn’t fit my guy, he’s just over 15 hands, solid and has a belly on him I’m always working on. Any particular reason why you decided not to purchase? This is my first saddle purchase and I want to make sure I don’t cause any damage to Troopers back.
That is a saddle maker from Laredo, TX.
Never heard of him, but there are many in TX that are good but only make one at the time, no helpers and so generally only known in their area, or he may have a shop full of people making saddles, I would not know.
Here is one you may compare to:

That is a ranch saddle and altered, the fenders cut shorter, I think, so not quite the same, but similar enough to get an idea of what people are asking for them used.
Does the saddle has a number somewhere?
Having the saddlemaker’s name and location, you could give him a call and see what he tells you about the saddle?
Hi Trooper20002. We are practically neighbours. I am in Warsaw. I did clean the saddle. I wanted to see if the white would come off. Did it fit your guy?
My Paint is a huge guy. Very stout old fashoined kind of paint. I didn’t think the saddle fit him any better than my Billy Cook Pro Reiner.
I have a HR saddle on order and they are making it right now. I should have it at the end of May.
You should contact me on facebook and we could go for a ride. my name is Karla Adams.
