Jim Taylor Saddles

In my continued search for a comfortable western saddle …I’ve always wanted to be a ‘Cowboy’ riding on the range eating beef jerky and beans
wait NO beans ! :eek::lol:

and admitting I had basically given up !

So by accident I rode a Jim Taylor (reining) saddle …NICE !!!

Specifically a western saddle that does not make a non-western rider feel claustrophobic !

and ?!???

I could actually walk the next day …

  • tried to buy it off the owner on the spot
    no luck

So I may have to purchase a new one

Before I … ‘spill the ink’ $$$

anyone ride one

anyone tell me if this may be a sound :confused:purchase or

if this is an awful and flimsy saddle …
’ Turn Back Dorothy!’

yes a professional will aid me in the order

Thank in advance ~

HAPPY TRAILS !

  • please refrain from ’ buy it if you like it’
I like it just asking if it is a quality saddle and not a disposable piece of cra

Those are nice reining saddles, but most good reining saddles will fit like you describe.

Jim Taylors come in very nice and more common ones, with less silver and tooling, etc.
Not all are on the higher end.

Since you found one you like, try to measure and take many pictures.
The kind of swell and seat and rigging can make a difference in comfort from rider to rider.
Reining saddles generally run a little larger so you have room there to go with the horse, unlike ranch saddles, that fit somewhat tighter so you can stick with your horse when things get wild.

You can find those for sale in plenty of reining web sites, if a used one is what you want.
Here are a few places selling reining saddles:

Thank you Bluey - yes I have taken many pics - ridden it three times inside and out on trails.

I have noted the size - seat - swell - rigging - silver …

I just, not being a Cowboy yet, was unaware of this brand - - have looked at and tried many reining saddles - found this to be the most comfortable for me / better for me than Bob’s Lady Reiner …and others .

I just was interested if anyone else was currently riding a Jim Taylor reining saddle and if it was a quality saddle.

Thanks for places selling - I have been watching those sites.

not rushing into this - covering all my informational avenues

thanks for your help

Maybe make your friend an offer she can’t refuse on that one and only perfect saddle that fits your behind just right?

I had years ago a Courts barrel racing saddle, the only one that I could fit an Arabian gelding I had, that a friend once tried and just absolutely fell in love with.
I didn’t have the horse any more, but was still using the saddle some.
To me, the seat was a little too hard.
After she liked it so well, well, how could I refuse?
I would wish someone let me have that one super perfect saddle too.

She still has it and used it for years, now still uses it some times and still loves it.

See if your friend can part with it.
If it is not also her one, best, most perfect saddle, she just may.

I would also keep trying other saddles, there may be some other out there that fits just as well.
You never know unless you try them.

I did …offer made … she has not had it long
She has many - this being used for training.

I tossed my offer and said if she changes her mind just email …
saw the wheels start turning …

before I left she said ’ I’ll look around - if I find something else - it will be for sale .’

She is out of town conducting a clinic for next four days.

she does not really need this saddle - has many

trainer = an acquaintance not friend

told her I was not in any hurry

fingers crossed
