Jimmy's Tack - "Crafted by Filipino"

I was looking at some Jimmy’s tack today online and noticed that a lot of it says “Crafted by Filipino” next to the Made in U.S.A., Custom, Jimmy’s, 20th/21st Century, etc. stamps. What does this mean? Is this the outsourced stuff of lesser quality people talk about?

My bridle says that, but it’s definitely not a low quality one! I love it, even scored the matching reins, and it’s in barely used condition.

That is good to hear!

I saw something else for sale that said “Made for Jimmy’s”, so I’m thinking that is probably the outsourced stuff rather than the stuff that says “Crafted by Filipino”.

Pretty sure Jimmy died…

Yes that’s common knowledge.

The Filipino stamped goods are the quality stuff

Yes, he unfortunately did. :frowning: His son still makes gorgeous tack though. His business is called Bennett’s Hunter Fine Bridles. I keep drooling over his bridles and I’m pretty sure my dream bridle is one of his with my initials stitched in the noseband!

Thank you!

Yes, my Dad died in December 2016. He marked his custom bridles with a “Made By Filipino” stamp to honor his wife who worked in his workshop up to when he died in 2016. She rubbed edges in his workshop for 25 years. My Dad’s business joined mine in May 2020, and I am still making custom bridles and have all of my Dad’s remaining saddlery, bits, saddles, bridles, and training aids. Dad was the best and most knowledgeable professional horseman/saddler in the USA. He worked in the bridle and saddlery trades for 65 years. I love doing the work, mostly by hand, as he and my grandfather taught me - “The Wiebe Way”.

Thanks for giving us the scoop. Is his wife’s name Filipino?
