Jingles and prayers please for strangulating lipoma

I just caught up and am so glad to read things seem to be progressing well for Seven. :racehorse:

Does he have a belly band?

He does not have a belly band. I rather wish he did…I think it might be comforting to me.:grinning:
He’s enjoying his turnout and is doing well. Two more weeks of restricted turnout. He can start on hay cubes Nov 1. I’m trying to find the TC Natural Balance Timothy hay cubes, but so far, no luck. I ordered them on line but have not gotten a confirmation from Tractor Supply.

CBD drops. Or tea. Or gummies.

How are you doing? How’s your lovely Seven?

Thinking of you both. :hugs:

Thank you! I think he’s doing really well. I’m still feeding him 7 or 8 times a day, depending on turnout. He is ver reliably passing manure and is bright as can be. He’s eating equal amounts of TC Senior Active and Smart Carb. He can start on hay cubes Nov 1. I’m so thankful for all the prayers, jingles and support.

I really do wish I could thank everyone in person. I didn’t tell many people in real life as I didn’t want negative stories or energy. You have all been wonderful! Thank you💗.

That’s great to hear!

Funny how anyone with horses knows the where-when-why-how it should be of manure in great detail for each horse, only to be looked at askance by non horse people when you are obviously worried, or an explanation is wanted for not showing up to a dinner party, or a birthday, or work…

Yes, my husband always looks at me strangely when I point out to him which manure pile belongs to each horse.

Last night was a weird night. For some reason, he quit eating the TC Senior Active mixed w equal amounts of Smart Carb. The Smart Carb is reliably unreliable w respect to consistency in product form. Sometimes, it comes as little pellets and sometimes it’s incredibly crumbly/dusty. I’m wondering g if this is a bum bag, so I got a new one to try today.
I may have to start over and not include SC. Per his vet, he can start on hay cubes Nov 1, but in the meantime, I’d like to keep him eating some type of forage. He doesn’t like Unbeetable, alfalfa or Timothy pellets. He will eat pellets but they have to be soaked just right. I’ll try teff pellets today. I’m wide open to any suggestion of something I may be unaware of.

Is he otherwise doing OK?

I have no suggestions for feed as I’ve never had a horse in that situation.

Do try to remember to take a few deep breaths. I know it’s hard, but you’re doing everything you can. Just keep on keepin’ on. :hugs:

The only thing I can think of (that you haven’t already tried) is Stabul 1. It’s a complete feed and available through Chewy. I’ve fed it to many horses and the pellets soak quickky

Thanks for the suggestion. He’s IR…I found that feed a few years ago and thought I’d hit the lottery. Except…he didn’t like it.

I tried Teff pellets tonight. He didn’t like them before, but I soaked them to mush tonight. He LOVED them. Fingers crossed :crossed_fingers:.

I may rethink the Stabul 1. He seems to be coughing on the teff…and is is really soaked. Did I soak it too much??? As in he doesn’t have to chew it it’s so soft? :woman_facepalming:I got it right this afternoon but I flunked tonight. I will ask if he can start on hay cubes sooner than Nov 1.

Here’s the update…. The original surgeon wanted him on Heathy Weight Oil from PP. So, I tried a little bit of it, even though he HATES oils. I tried a tiny bit (maybe 1/4 to 1/2 ounce) twice. He ate it…perhaps begrudgingly. The smell nauseated me and I could not get the smell off of my coat. That is just about when he quit eating. I washed his dish several times - he’s eating well again. I’m so relieved!!!

If you need something else to try in the future (hopefully not!), can you get LMF gentle balance https://lmffeeds.com/products/lmf-gentle-balance/?

My two PPID mares (one of which is my personal horse that is INCREDIBLY picky) scarf it up. It’s at 8% NSC and the first ingredient is alfalfa. :+1:

Have you tried adding a little Calf Manna to his feed? Old school but it’s an easy way to pack a few calories in and most horses love the flavor.

Still jingling hard for you and Seven.

Thank you both for those ideas! I will look into both as he could change his mind today!!

@Demerara_Stables, I don’t think I can access the feed you recommended.

@2bayboys, do you know the NSC on calf manna? He’s IR… I looked at the website but couldn’t find it. Thx!

I read through the Q & A for Calf Manna on the TSC website. The following is a quote (from five years ago) from Manna Pro Nutrition:

Q. “Is there a sugar/starch percentage? Can it be fed to laminitis prone horses?”

A.“Sugar: 8% Starch: 24%. We do not recommend feeding Calf Manna to horses with metabolic issues likes laminitis.”
