Seven wants to wish you all Merry Christmas! When I went to church Christmas Eve, it was w a very grateful heart. Thank you everyone for jingles and prayers. For me, the service was especially touching as the minister spoke about the soothing sounds of animals eating hay… one of my own personal favorite sounds💗.
So good to hear Seven continues to do well.
We also had very grateful hearts this Christmas It’s a beautiful feeling.
It’s wonderful that Seven is doing well. Here’s to a healthy 2025 - for us and our loved ones, which of course includes our horses, kitties, dogs, birds, etc.
Merry Christmas to you and Seven! So happy he’s continuing to do well I hope he was able to have some special treats on Christmas Day
Hi All, as an update, beloved Seven is doing really well. He is eating hay, and is reliably passing beautiful manure. Some of you may remember he fell to his knees in isolation, and the doctor caring for him there blew it off.
Because it was quite swollen and he was tripping when he came home, I was worried he fractured it. It’s been radiographed 4 times; no one found a fracture and no one felt it needed ultrasounded (3 different very good vets I like and trust). He’s lost quite a bit of flexibility in his knee.
Last week, the recommendation was to inject with PRP. I’ve no experience w it. He was on stall rest for a day and then was allowed turnout. We have snow-after a while, he rolled, jumped up, cantered off…and then trotted. Boy, was he lame. My vet warned me he may be more sore for a while and the knee would be more swollen.
I’m still panicked. Does anyone have insight or know of a good supplement geared toward the knee? We started him on Legend. I was going to do adequan but he’s gotten VERY needle shy.
No advice just here to send some Jingles & AO ~
SmartFlex Rehab pellets have been a godsend for a Hock/stifle
Injury. Also takes swelling down . Has some good ingredients for joints and good herbals for pain.
Thank you. How palatable is this one? He’s never eaten and Smartpak product I’ve tried.
Oh poor guy
No advice on supplements, but does back on track have a knee wrap? Their products have been excellent for keeping run of the mill swelling down (like stocking up) for my horses. I haven’t tried any of their stuff for joint pain per se (usually muscle stuff) but can’t hurt to try.
Well Miss Piggy never met a pellet she didn’t like so we had
No problem even when I had to cut her regular pellets way back to almost nothing.
I do add water to make it soupy.
Talk to Smartpak and see what
They’ll do if your boy won’t eat it.
That’s a good idea. I have the leg wraps. I’ll cobble something together short term and order one.
Jingles for you and Seven!
Uckele has a similar product that was highly recommended by a
Smartpak rep when I mentioned I may want to try another supplement- Arthroxigen.
It has a good list of ingredients
For joints and inflammation and
Quite a few herbals plus pain
Medications.
I just ordered a bucket so I can’t say how it works yet but it has good reviews.
After reading about problems w devil’s claw w respect to ulcers, I have pause about giving him something w devil’s claw. I appreciate your suggestions, though. I didn’t know devil’s claw could cause gastric problems until I read some of the negative reviews.
I had PRP on some tendons in my hip and it hurt like a (insert favorite profanity here)….it took about 2-3 weeks to start heading in a pain free direction but it did. I wasn’t expecting that level of pain…it was almost as bad as surgical incisional pain. I would give it some time. The doctor did my hip joint at the same time and that didn’t hurt at all but boy howdy, those tendons were even less happy after the PRP.
Jingles for a good outcome. Part of the premise of PRP is to cause inflammation. My doctor did not allow NSAIDS for 3 months! Be sure to check with the vet on what would be appropriate. have you tried acetaminophen for pain relief?
He looks really great at the walk. When he trotted, it was awfull. My vet does use Tylenol, so I have plenty on hand. He’s also comfortable in the stall. I just didn’t expect him to look worse after the injections in turn out. Although dumb me… the vet did say he might be sore afterward and it could be a week or two. I used to be a reasonable person…he’s been through so much, my go to is panic now. It’s not an attractive look😀. Thank you for your insight.
You’ve been through so much, it’s hard not to panic! Have you tried Osteon? It’s a Platinum Performance feed through product for bone and soft tissue injuries? I know some folks who’ve used it with good results. Or maybe ask your vet about Arthramid or Noltrex to help with the inflammation and cushion the joint.
For a feed through, I really like 4Cyte for joints. I also had a very well respected vet recommend rose hips. He said the usual stuff - glucosamine etc - is not longer considered to be that great.
Thank you for your support and ideas. I’ll follow up on this. He’s picky…,any idea how palatable this is?
I’ve also used Lubrisyn (HA) for
Bad joints and pain. And swelling. it’s a tasteless jell and
Starts helping to alleviate pain
Shortly after ingesting it.
Also ground flaxseed (omega 3’s) for inflammation.
