Very interesting… I will follow up. I wonder why glucosamine has fallen out of favor. I hope it’s because they’ve found other things are better.
I’m going to second Lubrisyn I’ve seen it really work with horses, dogs, people and I personally have a goat on it who can’t walk without it due to arthritis in her knees. It’s a clear gel/liquid and is actually slightly sweet. I’ve never seen any animal bothered by the taste at all. It takes about 2 weeks to see a difference but definitely worth a try. Usually the cheapest price is on entirely pets when they have 15-20% off the whole site.
Also don’t be alarmed by them being more lame after a joint injection. I’ve had my back and hip injected and was absolutely crippled right after it’s really really painful. It gave me a whole new respect for my horse when he gets his hocks injected. I love the results from PRP. It does take longer to see the results but I think it works better and longer than steroid injections.
Red light therapy would help and not invasive at all.
Give it time if just injected.
Our guy ate it but it is a lot of powder. We may have an extra bin of it. If you’re interested in trying it, let me know and I can send it to you.
Thank you! We are doing that already. I’m actually wondering if it is a ligament/tendon injury. I’ve asked all 3 vets to ultrasound it, but no one thought it was worthwhile. All said the treatment would not change.
I’ll try this…I couldn’t get him to eat it but I’ll try again.
Thank you! Did you mean Ortho Chon? I found that on their website. It has devil’s claw in it. I’m afraid to use anything w that in it yet.
Replying to me…just found Osteon!
Try not to panic. The Vet told you to expect this, so it would be best if you didn’t do anything differently, bandage, supplement, etc… without running it by them first.
Take some deep breaths, and hang in there.
This is what we’ve used
only Zeolite, no devil’s claw!
@NaturallyHappy Thinking of you and Seven! You’ve come to far. We need a solution for his knee!
Thank you!
FWIW I have two horses on osteon - one loves it but one hates it. It is a ton of powder. I think if you have a feed where you can wet it and get it to stick you will have more luck. Platinum is usually pretty good about sending sample packs, maybe you can get a sample pack of it to try out before buying a bucket?
Thank you!
I had requested samples from Platinum when we switched from Osteon + PP GI to PP CJ and they said they no longer offer samples.
If you can split between two feedings, it’s better.
Our barn only feeds supplements with supper, so once our horse was done with his rehab, I switched him to CJ. Osteon + PP GI + Tri-Aminos, was too much powder when he was only getting a small handful of grain
Oh that’s a huge bummer!
Also, the dose for osteon is two scoops a day. I think the one scoop itself is a lot but I guess it depends on how much grain or pellets you are feeding.
One of mine is on CJ and osteon, the other is just on osteon and some other smaller volume powders.
Do you mind if I ask why you are using both CJ and Osteon? If I’m being too intrusive, apologies!!
Happy to share! Sent you a PM
I’m glad Seven is doing better but so sorry about his knee!
Agree with red light, or alternatively, shockwave or laser for targeted help.
Supplements- if you’re wishing to avoid Devils Claw, I would concentrate on a high dose of MSM, yucca, turmeric and HA. I haven’t heard or seen anything indicating glucosamine is falling out of favor, however, there are certainly a lot more options to choose from.
Smartstride Ultra may be a good option as it has joint and soft tissue support.
I’ve also always like Uckele’s Lubrigen pellets. Another poster above mentioned another Uckele supplement but that one does have a lot of herbal ingredients including DC.
BOT does make knee wraps or you can get a red light wrap for the knee too. I’d also consider Tylenol but per your vets advise of course.
It’s always something to manage and stay on top of with our equine friends. I do hope he feels some pain improvement soon.
