Jenners is a very good friend of mine. She has quite a menagerie. Give her a hug from me. I haven’t seen her IRL in almost a year. I miss her.

It was great to meet you too! I got to meet the dogs and the horses. And for those of you following the barn dog thread? The Jenners dogs are the nice kind of barn dogs - very well behaved! It was a lot of fun.
Odie is absolutely adorable. And opionated! LOL! Watching him try to buck up the barn aisle on three legs was totally adorable. And my, does he ever have strong feelings on things. You know the saying ‘dogs have owners, cats have staff’? Odie has staff.
I had a wonderful day - I visited our retired mare, then rode, then grabbed a ferry over to the island, and drove the length of it to get to a really beautiful area and met The Jenners and Odie, (and the man who coined the ‘evil burrito’ phrase), then drove home via Deception Pass. It was a great Saturday. And really fun to meet another Cother in person. I highly recommend it.

He seems to be fine :-). He is trashing his stall DAILY, all his tubs are pulled out and upside down, and his ball is outside the stall all the time. So I think his banishment to stall living is starting to get to him, even though size-wise I suspect the stall is like 30’x30’ to an average horse :lol:.
I did get him a Jimmy’s Hanging Ball Saturday, DH said it didn’t look touched yet by yesterday, and I haven’t gone out yet today.
OK, he has DEFINITELY discovered the joys of a Jimmy’s Hanging Ball… This is how I found it tonight. And no, I didn’t leave it flipped around the panel like that :lol:.
Cast is still doing fine as far as I can tell. He is not walking on it, but he is putting some weight on it when he stands and puts it down when he decides to move faster than a walk. I should probably call the vet this week and see if that’s ok. From his speech on keeping the bottom of the cast wrapped in duct tape, etc etc, I think he was expecting him to be, yanno, walking on it. :ambivalence:
Also, he got to go nekkid tonight. He’s is really starting to get some serious fur.

Odie is pretty much the most adorable thing that I’ve seen in a long time. :yes:
Update, he’s FINALLY using the leg. I tried and tried to get decent video, but every time I stopped what I was doing to catch him, he’d stop and stare at me. Turkey. So I got him harassing me while I was trying to put the wheel barrow away.
Also, some very cute itching at about 1:30.
I’m starting to be concerned about getting his feet trimmed… He was due when this happened. Yanno, back at the beginning of Oct :eek:. But I still can’t get him to trust his balance enough to even be able to pick a front foot, much less get it trimmed. My best thought is to see if I can get my farrier to come out when Odie is knocked out for the hopefully last cast, and get the three support feet done. I’d be fine with letting DH trim him, except I was battling some WL on the good hind foot (of COURSE!) and now there’s some funky missing spots/growth there that I’m worried about having trimmed properly. But that’s still three and a half weeks away.
I wonder how much Odie would object to an improvised sling?? With some dorm on board?
ETA: you can tell he’s obviously terrified of the wheel barrow and I beat him regularly… :lol:
If he can get up and down easily, how about teaching him to lay down and let you handle his feet while he is down?
That is what we did with this mare, that was too lame to hold a foot up any time and very heavy pregnant, so we taught he to lay down and stay there for trimming:

Bluey, I think that would work except we’ve tried laying him down before. He objected, quite vigorously, and was sedated at the time.
I cannot get over the cuteness! Glad he’s finally weight-bearing.
