Jingles for Evil Burrito: post 680 something EORTH :(

So happy for the positive Odie update
I just went through all Odie videos with my Dear Husband, who now wants an Odie of his own

Yes, Odie needs a Facebook page.

Bluey, I think that would work except we’ve tried laying him down before. He objected, quite vigorously, and was sedated at the time.
Teach him, don’t force him.

There are several ways to go about it.

With his injury, you don’t want to have him struggling, not a good idea.

Maybe his feet can wait until they have to lay him down for more casting?

If you need a sling, get one or two of those cheap web stall guards and hang him up with them and a bunch of ropes to keep it all steady.
Web us softer, that is what we have, but nylon ones are ok too:

You can use, to hang him from, a barn rafter, stocks if you have them, or a tractor bucket, as we have done, that makes it easier to lift as high as you need.

A stall guard! What a great idea, thanks!

Oh my gosh. The cuteness. I can’t even deal.

I must have a mini donk!

If you rig up a sling for him, THAT is something you MUST photograph and share! And if you start a Facebook page for him, I hope you’ll still share here on COTH for us non-FBers.

How in the world do I even DO an Odie Facebook page?? Like a person’s, the way I set up mine? I can then tag him in all my current Odie pictures, instead of trying to save them and upload them all again?

And no worries, there will be photos and prob video of him in the sling. I was pondering how to do it, thinking some rope attached to the stall guard, attached to a heavy duty pulley and to a rafter in the barn… And then what? Tie to truck, let truck roll forward until the sling is supporting his weight, but not to the point that he’s, yanno, swinging in the breeze??? Dear lord, LOL!

Too cute…what a personality!

He can’t weigh that much – I would think you’d be able to hoist him up using a come-along attached to the barn rafter.

One or two stall guards go under the belly, from one side to the other, if two hobbled together.
Then you have a rope like a breast collar, from side to side and one behind like some kind of breeching.

You need a way to tie the lead rope on the halter high, to hold him up in front if he starts to tip over in front.

True slings have bars above to tie the ropes to and keep all upright, but you don’t need them, you are not lifting him out of a canyon under a helicopter.

Or you can make an Odie burrito with the stall guards, some extend up to I think 12’ and then lift him from that.

A tractor with a bucket is ideal, what we have used with horses and cattle, but if you don’t have one, try to throw two ropes over a strong beam and use them to lift him with them.

If you have stocks, you can do that from the top bars of the stocks.

You could just lift his front, trim those and then his behind and trim those.
That wold not take much of whatever you have overhead to hold him up, no need to lift the whole burrito.

But whole burrito would be funnier…

Yeah I don’t think he weighs more than 250 if even that?

Too bad this costs so much. Says it is made here in WA…wonder if a rescue organization would have one to loan?

Jenners, I have an electric winch that you can borrow. It will lift up to 1,000lbs and moves slowly and smoothly. It’s in Anacortes, so relatively convenient, but I’m not up there every day so we would have to work out a pickup/dropoff.

Awesome! DH is out of town and coming back this weekend, I’ll pitch the idea to him.

We are SO going to need pictures of the burrito in a sling – I keep thinking “bungie burrito”

Odie is quite the ambassador for mini donks. I texted my dd who, along with her bf, is looking for a farm to buy, and warned her to expect to be gifted with one once they get settled!

He is a riot!! I say “ears” to my horse too. I am SO going to have an Odie if I ever move my horse home . . . . .

OMG the video after he itches his side and comes running at you is hilarious. He certainly thinks he’s all big and bad. He wasn’t going to put those ears up for anything…you wanna see my ears, look at the back of my head lady 'cause that’s where my ears is!

I’ll bet he could still kick you when slung !

I cannot get over the cuteness! Glad he’s finally weight-bearing.
Me too!

Love the video!!! ‘Put down the *#$@%#)# phone and PET ME!’

I do have a feeling that if you put him in a sling for trimming, you may need to muzzle him as well during the trim. You’ll likely have one really mad burrito when it’s all over.
