Oh no, tough as she is, that’s no joke at her age!

I wonder how it happened–a sobering reminder that even the most experienced horseperson can get into trouble at the wrong moment.

boy, they just can’t seem to get a break this year! She has always been my favorite Royal. She genuinely loves her horses and has taken a very low profile. She seems to have done a good job raising Zara. Was she on horse back? How do you get kicked in the head if you are mounted?

I’m surprised she went to the hospital !

Yeah, that’s why I think it must have been bad. They’re down playing it, but they’re keeping her there.

Oh, wow! What bad news! I hope she recovers well.

A statement from Buckingham Palace said: ā€œThe Princess Royal has sustained minor injuries and concussion following an incident on the Gatcombe Park estate yesterday evening.
ā€œHer Royal Highness remains in Southmead Hospital, Bristol, as a precautionary measure for observation and is expected to make a full and swift recovery."

I hope she recovers quickly. I did laugh at the wording of the incident that I read that said there are no reports of what happened but ā€œhorses were in the areaā€. Nothing sums up horses better

In this article it says she was walking on the estate and there were horses in the area. Anyone who’s been in a field with loose horses knows how quickly things can happen.

From the BBC:

The fact that no one knows what actually happened implies that:
She was alone:
The concussion was bad enough to cause amnesia.

Exactly. We haven’t had a statement yet confirming she is conscious.

Let us hope it is, indeed, relatively minor. I believe it is known she has had several concussions in her equestrian career.

Oh, I stand corrected/ The BBC is reporting she is conscious.

Even getting clocked by a horse’s head to her own head would cause issue; snip from article above:
The exact cause of the injuries is unconfirmed, but Anne’s medical team have said that her head injuries were consistent with a potential impact from a horse’s head or legs.

I bolded horse’s head.

I have seen stars getting knocked by a jaw or chin from horses loose in a field and someone gets pushy and I was 50 yrs younger than her when it happened.

I would think if she got kicked, she would be in worse condition. Cracked skull, TBI, black and blue, etc.

I can see something like petting one horse over the fence, another one comes up or a bug bites the horse and it swings it’s head around making contact. Something that can happen easily and quickly without even being in the field.

No idea if this is why more details aren’t forthcoming – Sometimes injured horse people don’t want the horse to look bad. Don’t want the horse to get tagged as "that’s the horse that ___ ".

Very glad to hear of the good prognosis. I’ve read that Princess Anne has held a horse trials for mid-level eventers for many, many years, with the intention of encouraging riders and interest in the sport.

Yes, this has been another ā€˜annus horribilis’ for the Royal Family, re medical situations. (Hope I spelled it correctly.)

It’s good that according to reports, everyone seems to be recovering – I hope so!

Including one during the Olympics, after falling off, which she rode through after getting on again! According to her, her memory was hazy of the event (I believe reading).

I will confess that I am worried–I initially ā€œhopedā€ it was a fall in the paddock, during which she hit her head against the ground, but a blow to the head with a hoof is far more alarming.

Her history of concussions will be a factor. No idea what it is.

They are far more inclined to keep you in hospital in the UK than here, so I wouldn’t necessarily read too much into that. Especially combined with her age and her status as pretty much the ā€œlast man standingā€ at the serious end of the Royal Family at the moment. Got to make sure she’s OK to carry on flying the flag.
