Excellent news!

She is the hardest worker of the Royals, most of her work is behind the scene, not publicized.

It was probably that drive that made her an Olympic champion.

If being an Olympic Champion means showing up I guess she is one. Unfortunately she never received a medal at the Olympics. Her daughter Zara is a silver medalist though.

Ok European Champion then, I do believe she was on the Olympic team but I guess they did not medal that Olympics. Or I could be wrong.

She participated in the Montreal Olympics in 1976. It was a big deal in the Canadian media at the time or I likely wouldn’t remember.

Well, I’m sure that we all medaled at the Olympics that we participated in. Oh wait I bet 99% of us probably never have even been to watch the Olympics much less competed in it.
Just to be on a team is quite an accomplishment

She won the 1971 European Championships, was knocked out in a fall in the 1973 Europeans in Kiev, earned silver individual and team in 1975 Europeans. In April 1976 she fractured her vertebrae in a fall but recovered and was selected for the Montreal games. She had a bad fall, scuppering any chance at a medal, but she remounted and continued, despite a serious concussion, to finish for the team. She is now very funny when she describes it.

my first exposure to eventing was Princess Anne in the Olympics. I still didn’t know about eventing, but a PRINCESS was riding. I think the tv cameras actually showed her with a manure fork too.

Off topic, but my first exposure to eventing was the Disney movie The Horsemasters. I thought it was the coolest thing ever.

I loved that movie as a kid. Does anyone know if it is available to stream anywhere? I’ve looked multiple times but have been unable to find it.

I rewatched it about a year ago here: The Horsemasters (1961) (youtube.com)

And I very much enjoyed it again.

Oh, awesome! That is definitely going on my weekend “to do” list.

I should mention that it’s obviously dated, and corny in spots. But it’s still great nostalgic fun.

I still have the book around here somewhere. I loved it! I’m sure it’s boxed in the garage with the rest of my books. I am so grateful for my Kindle, living in a place with no room in the house for my books!
