My boyfriend discovered an unusual bumpy growth on my 11 year old cat’s lower back last night. My brain immediately jumped to cancer :(. I’m a worrier when it comes to her and this has me a bundle of nerves. She’s never liked her lower back being pet so I wonder how long this has gone unnoticed.
She has an appointment with the vet tomorrow morning to have it looked at. This kitty is a NIGHTMARE at the vets office. They’ve instructed me to give her 5mg of Acepromazine and .2ML of Buprenex thirty minutes before the appointment, as well as to wipe down the inside of her carrier with Feliway wipes to aid in keeping her calm. Giving an older cat meds makes me so nervous. She’s had Acepromazine before a dental cleaning once about seven months ago, but never the Buprenex, and combining the two makes me extra nervous.
Has anyone ever used this combination? In an older cat? I know I should trust the vet but….she’s my baby
No advice ~ just sending Jingles & AO for your cat ~ ((hugs)) for you during this worrisome time ~
It wouldn’t concern me…however if she is that bad at the vets I bet this won’t help much. I hope the bump is nothing:)
Buprenex is pretty benign in terms of cardiovascular side effects, if that’s your concern. And 11 really isn’t that old. I wouldn’t be too worried. Fingers crossed that it’s something benign!
Lots and lots of jingles from Wisconsin for your kitty! Please keep us updated on her progress. HUGS for you.

I feel for you, A Favorite kitty I had, now departed was ALWAYS a nightmare at the vet. I adored my vet I used at the time. He would have me bring her in before anyone else and Gas her down to examine her. She was that bad. Yes I loved her. it got to be a standard joke at the clinic. Tech’s would joke, Oh Punkins coming in tomorrow?? I have the day off!
She was impossible to give meds to. Hoping your kitty is just fine!!
Jingles & AO for this day for your cat and you ~ be brave ~ ((hugs)) for ALL ~
Well the pre appointment drugs did little to keep her calm once we got to the vet clinic . Needless to say kitty had to get a syringe full of the real stuff so she was suuuuuuper asleep.
Bump got removed no problem and sent off to the lab for testing, so just have to keep fingers crossed and wait five to ten days for results
My mom stayed with her all day while I went to the barn to ride/teach. She’s had a slow time waking up. Now that I’m home she won’t let me get within five feet of her without hissing/growling. Ugh. I’m supposed to give her pain med and anti-biotic tonight but I have no idea how I’m going to pull that off without loosing an eye. She’s had a little food and water so now I feel like it’s just a waiting game until she calms down.
No. Fun.
Glad bump is gone … she’s home .
Stay strong ~ get meds in.
Jingles & AO for a weekend of rest &
recovery for ALL !
Glad she got to the vet. Jingles for recovery! You can get those meds into her!
Do you have an old pillowcase you can put her in, then do a kitty burrito wrap over that with an old towel? It’s better with two people, so if your mom can help you, things would (probably) go much smoother.
More jingles for both of you!
