There’s an MTV reality show (“The Hills” ) where the lead “character” gets $75,000 an episode
You should be embarrassed to know this…lol

Is Kayla Stra wealthy from her Australian success? How else can she support herself out there in California with the very few mounts she receives?
Dunno, but she is apparently going to Fresno for the fair. We will see if that happens.

Fair enough  In my defense it wasn’t common knowledge to me… I googled it!
Maybe Animal Planet really does pay enough for her to not get that many rides (or wins).

It was a bit weird how last week’s Jockey’s showed Jon Court’s return to racing in Kentucky at Churchill being almost a typical race day.
Once again their continuity department sucks wind - did anyone notice Jon’s wife was wearing two different hats throughout his “race”?

Wasn’t it two different dresses too?
I’m bugged by Trevor Denman’s voice overs during the races. Even weirder to hear him calling a race at Churchill.

I can understand why they have to rework races with Trevor - simply put no race shown during an episode is more then 15 seconds and jockey’s are very rarely mentioned by name during race calls. That said after watching so many races it is odd to hear a reworked race.
As for using Trevor and not Johnson I’m sure it’s due to Trevor’s agreement for all voice over work for the show. Keep in mind the Kentucky Oaks and Derby when aired on NBC has Tom Durkin
I only watched the last episode (The Pamplemousse) on-demand as opposed to on AP directly but unlike other series intros they did not use Kanye West’s Stronger. Maybe that is just the case with it on-demand?
Regarding the tv show’s claim that there was some widespread buzz about The Pamplemousse being able to hit 50-mph - that is utter nonsense. Feel free to search the entire 2009 KY Derby 135th edition thread which started Oct 2008 and captured most all of the news. I never saw any such claim of speed with him or any Derby horse in this year.
As to why the show would be so silly about any such suggestion is beyond me. I know people who good friends of the horses owners and while he was ‘popular’ for a time in his quest to make the Derby so too (if equally so) were other So. California runners Pioneerof The Nile, Chocolate Candy, and I Want Revenge. I don’t think anyone thought - nor was there evidence in 2009 on the track - that the grapefruit was some suggested cut above the rest.
The single three-year old horse in 2009 that has been cited as having a massive stride that is measurably larger then any other peers is Rachel Alexandra.
Regarding the Santa Anita Derby
Some one confirm this but didn’t they show Solis watching the Derby in the Jocks room? Jr tells him the Pamplemousse was scratched and then they show him sitting it out. Or am I remembering the show wrong; I was pretty tired when I watch it?
He was in the race! Did they even show the right race?
“I didn’t know about what had happened to The Pamplemousse until I woke up from my nap about 10:45 (a.m.),” Solis said. "Obviously, I was disappointed, very disappointed. But you’ve just got to pick up your head and keep going. So I wound up with Take the Points, and he ran real good. I was proud of his effort.”
Added:
I had to look it up because I just can’t understand why they would doctor this. Sure enough Solis was shown watching the Derby in the jocks room complete with voice overs of the race. He is an amazing man to both watch the race and ride in it at the same time! Check it out!
Here is the show, skip down to about 38 min for the race.

Here is the actual race as seen at the track.

At least it appears to be the right race. Watch the gray horse, that is Take the Points. He finishes 4th with Solis on board!
It gets worse and worse
I find that I tivo this show (have a season pass) and then it sits until I want to watch something and have nothing else waiting or actually airing. And then I only watch in chunks. Sad for what could be really interesting/exciting subject matter if they stuck to the truth! I have 3 shows backlogged and am only about 1/3 of the way through the one from over 3 weeks ago.
Hmm… it’s strange, I found last season’s to be pretty boring and I would ‘watch’ while I was doing stuff on the computer. This season, I am ENGROSSED. The editing sucks and whoever’s calling the races should probably be shot, but other than that, I really enjoy it.
On another note, what on earth is up with Alex Solis’s nose? It looks like he has a Breathe-Right strip implanted under his skin or something. I’m assuming he broke his nose and that was the fix for it? Anyone?

You are correct and Equidaily.com pointed this out today (9-22) as well. Solis - as you and they pointed out - did ride on very short notice Take the Points in the SA Derby to 4th place.
Again its just weird why they would take such liberties with reality when it doesn’t add value (viewers aren’t idiots and can grasp the idea that Alex DID get a last minute ride but just not on the horse he planned on) and doing these stunts just makes the producers look foolish.
Well, I know the show is stupid, but did anyone watch tonight?
They showed GG’s daughter, getting a riding lesson over cross rails, and GG jumped on a horse and went over a few low rails himself. His agent was standing there, and it was at least supposed to be the day before he diecided which horse he was going to ride. His agent was having a FIT in case he fell off, and he was riding over jumps SANS helmet!:yes::lol: Agent was muttering about how there was about $3 million dollars of horse waiting on him and he was gonna breeak his neck. It was the best of a not very good show yet.
GG could have used a helmet. He puts one on for racing, put one on for jumping. I agree with his agent. It was stupid. A little too much mucho from these little guys. Jumping is way tougher than it looks. Just like riding in a jockey position at 40 MPH is tough.
The last episode with Stardom Bound - and her lackluster victory - I think showed one of the last times Bobby Frankel was seen at the track.
Worth citing that tonight (Monday 9-28) jockey Joe Talamo is on The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien. He was supposed to be on the Friday episode but as noted he was injured in a stunt gone arye with actress Terri Hatcher.
Did anyone catch Joe on The Tonight Show? He certainly is comfortable with the spotlight and the banter about his girlfriend (who I assume is still Elizabeth Ellis - trainer Ron Ellis’ daughter) was amusing enough. He’s working Mine That Bird this morning at Santa Anita.
I have to concur with this blogger nominating Jimmy The Hat on the most recent episode for the dumbest comment uttered on camera. remark here.
The California story line is boring and tiresome at this point. Animal Planet should take the show to a mid-level or bush track…now that show would be interesting. They could follow riders who double as exercise riders and farm hands when they’re not riding in the afternoon or at night. I’m tired of them trying to make it seem like Aaron Gryder’s career has been a disappointment and how John Court couldn’t make it…yet these guys drive mercedez bens and wear rolexes…puhhhhlease. How 'bout AP change it up a bit and switch to venues where the best riders might make $60k a year. Now that would be an interesting show to watch…and we don’t need a “Jimmy the Hat” on the next season either or the fake crowd shots or the staged calls between jockey and agent. A rambling post…I know…

i only got around to watching this one last night; she was wearing one dress/hat combo in the stands during the race, and then changed her clothes after after he won (and he changed into street clothes himself). guess they had a party or something later.
bad editors, no coookie.
I love the crowd shots like when Chantal lost her iron and probably the only people who noticed it were the trainer who was watching her horse closely and they showed the crowd all dropping their jaw like it was the end of the world…so not believable !!!
