JRT/Rat Terrier in Monterey, CA

I’m not an expert on either breed (but do have a Beagle/Rat Terrier mix), but have to say that that looks MUCH more like a Rat Terrier to me than it does a JRT. Could definitely be a mix, but does look to have quite a bit of Rat Terrier in there. Not that that really makes much difference in the long run. Personalities are similar, although I believe Ratties can be a bit easier because they’re not as popular as the JRT’s & thus haven’t had to suffer many of the temperament problems the JRT’s have had due to all of the popular-dog-of-the-moment breeders.

I have a rat terrier and the pictures didn’t show a rat terrier head, but did show a JRT head type.
The rest of the body also is too light for most rat terriers, more like a toy fox terrier.
Then, we are not seeing the dog in person and pictures don’t always show the real dog.

When we don’t know the breeding, of course most anything with a close resemblance could be in there, we will never know.

She does seem like a wonderful dog for someone’s companion.

The ears and tail docking looked more JRT to me. I thought fox terriers tails were docked halfway and this girl’s tail is just a little longer than a stub. But she is leggy, not a Parson type terrier in any way at all. Dear Daughter says she has been a jewel in the house all week.

We’ve taken into account Sheliahs kind heads up about strays. The next step is to have her vetted to see if she is safe to travel- no heart murmor of infirmities of advanced age- that would rule out flying her. Pilots and Paws does regional flying for rescues and isn’t set up for something like this. However, American Airlines does give a 50% percent shipping discount to active duty military which Dear Daughters husband is. The airline agent gave me many pointers so if nothing changes the old girl could fly out here in a couple weeks.

Update: Oscarette passed her vetting with no concerns and the vet aged her at 12. Her flight has left San Jose and she’ll be here just before 7:0 this evening.

Fiingers and toes and paws crossed all goes well and you get to enjoy her for many years.
A friend lost her rat terrier at 18 years, so you may have long yet to enjoy the wonderful gift of a quiet senior dog.
