Anyone use him as a trainer? I heard that he is very nice person but is super expensive, but can’t find anyone who trains with him. Any info appreciated.
I’ve only heard positive things about him.
@Mike Matson may have more concrete good things to share.
I’ve ridden with him and found him very helpful. Very positive. He also does long lining lessons which were really educational!
I’ve never ridden with him, but he used to live in my area, so I know people who have either taken lessons from him or done clinics. I’ve always heard very positive things about him and that he’s a really nice guy. I know that both @Phyxius and @ladyj79 have taken lessons with him, so perhaps they can chime in.
Send me a PM and I can give you some feedback. Positive…
If I could bottle his apparently endless good nature and positive attitude, I would make a mint. I’ve not taken lessons from him but I’ve seen him take lessons and he is always looking for the positive. As with all instructors, you have to click but he would be worth a try if you’re in the market for his expertise and riding ability.
I have taken quite a few lessons and clinics with him. Ditto the poster above who wants to bottle his enthusiasm. He is a very nice and supportive trainer. He has been hard on me when needed, and effusive in praise when warranted. It does take a lesson or two to grasp his accent. If you can audit a clinic, you can figure out his accent in advance! His lesson prices seem to be in line with those of his caliber who come thru our area. PM me if you want more info. Again, nothing but
positive accolades for Julio.
Very good lessons, professional, but very personable. I also appreciate that Julio has a lot of experience and success with very different types of horses. I lessoned with both my forward and opinionated arab-wb cross as well as a super chill, green, four year old wb-draft cross. My lessons were well-tailored to my needs, as well as the very different needs of each horse.
Thank you to all who answered!!!
I didn’t ride with Julio but did ride at the same barn as him before he bought his current place. He is definitely a good-hearted person who is just truly a happy person. He was stalled next to us at a horse show and was so pleasant and nice. He does have a slight accent but it doesn’t take long to get used to it at all.
I have never ridden with him, but my trainer rides a Friesian with him in clinics and has nothing but excellent things to say about him.
He came several times to the barn I board at, “Jersey Palms” in New Jersey. He also goes to another farm in NJ. Didn’t see him for clinics last year because he was too busy qualifying for WEG, etc. I sure missed him!
My trainer and I both rode my horse in lessons with him and he was super! Especially good at tailoring my lesson for the difficulties I was having with the horse and gave me an A-Ha moment. The man truly loves horses and I, also, wish I could bottle his energy and enthusiasm !
I am not rich and did not find the clinic expensive for the caliber of rider/trainer he is. I have seen lesser people charge more.
