ETA: EventerAJ - that filly is GORGEOUS. swoon! was she as nice to raise as she is pretty?[/QUOTE]
Oh yes, she was an absolute doll in every way, never put a foot wrong. I did most of her prep work by ponying her, and she was super easy, smart and willing. I used to drool as we’d trot around the field, she’d flick her toes out in a long, smooth stride like a daisy-cutter. I saw her later as a two-year old training at Keeneland, and she remembered me. I whistled and called her name (“Lily”) down the barn aisle, her head swung around, eyes lit up and her ears pricked. Made my heart smile.
An interesting tangential tidbit: Lily was born the same night, about an hour after her best pal, “Daisy.” They were the first two foals I’d ever helped pull out of a mare. (photo, Lily left, Daisy right) Daisy and Lily were bought by the same owner at the yearling sale; Daisy was a little cheaper at $5,500. Her owners kept her name, which became Daisy Devine; she went on to run in the 2011 Kentucky Oaks and won over $1M including the G1 Jenny Wiley Stakes at Keeneland. She, too, sold last November at Keeneland as a broodmare prospect, bringing $1.3M.
Daisy is by Kafwain (Cherokee Run) out of a Devil’s Bag mare. (Sales photo) She was also athletic, though a bit more refined, and was a little mentally fragile (her mother was a fruitloop). For those shopping, keep an eye on Kafwain/Cherokee Runs as well. They tend to be a nice type, though not always as consistent as AP Indys.
