Jumper Barn near Guelph Ontario

I’m moving to Guelph for school and looking for jumper barn recommendations.

Showing Trillium and/or A depending upon finances. Currently at 1m, hoping to move up. On site coach or regular visiting coach preferred. Must have lots of turnout, good air quality, good footing, lots of hacking.

Within 30 mins of UofG best and prefer towards Palgrave.

Thanks

With no traffic Palgrave is over an hour’s drive from Guelph. So you would be looking in the Erin area? Lots of barns but recommendations would depend on max price/mo.

Thanks aristokat, I’ll look between Guelph and Erin then.

I’m budgeting $1500 for board and lessons, but can’t afford a full show season if my loans don’t come in. I’ve been advised that A barns often require a full show season and that I should look into good Trillium barns as well.

Any specific recs in the area you mentioned?

Compass Equestrian is quite nice and close to Palgrave. Also try Keurwood (right beside Angelstone!)

If you can find a trainer to come in, Keurwood is next door to Angelstone. We boarded there in 2014 until our horse was leased. It’s much closer to Guelph than Palgrave, though. Green Haven is in Limehouse (Georgetown). Sue Pritchard Laing’s place, Classic Way, is also close to Guelph but I believe it sold and I don’t know who bought it… Absolute Equestrian (Jackie Tattersall) was dead in the middle of Guelph and Palgrave. It now operates as “Crailin” but I don’t know anything about it, or where Absolute is now.

Forest Hill and Sorenson are both close to Palgrave. Park Lane I believe in Erin. Meadowlarke is, I believe, primarily Trillium with one location in Mississauga and a “north” location close to Rockwood.

It makes a huge difference if you would be showing Trillium. There are tons of Central West zone barns in the Guelph area.

Classic Way is now Compass Equestrian - which I also suggested

Triple C (Carly Campbell Cooper) isn’t far, also Mike Grinyer is very close to the university. Both are excellent coaches and (I believe) fall easily into your price range. Wellington Equestrian is also very nice and within 45min of UoG. Amy Noonan (the intercollegiate equestrian coach and the University) and Sue Prichard-Lang are currently coaching out of there. Greenhaven is also an excellent choice as they are one of the few that do not go South in the winter. All of the aforementioned coaches do the As exclusively.

Avoid Compass Equestrian like the plague. Beautiful facility, but horrific care and coaching! It used to be Classic Way (Sue Pritchard-Lang), but is now rented by Compass Equestrian. If you’re wanting to save money, Genesis Equestrian (Guelph Line) is okay for the price - it is just a very busy facility.

I believe that Michelle Vandal is out of Keurwood now.

Not for several months.

Michelle is back at Vanbrook Equestrian. Another thumbs up for Amy. Scott and Carly are both great but I think they’re out of your price range. The Guelph OUEA team is based out of Old Orchard Farm. Sharpe Investments is a private A barn in the Guelph area that is a lot more affordable than some of the other places mentioned. They don’t require a full show season like some places. Another suggestion would be Chris Delia. He’s in Burlington but is based out of the most beautiful facility. Again doesn’t require a full show season. Not the cheapest place, but reasonably priced for the facility and services you get. I know people from U of G who board there, they say the drive is manageable. Shenandoah Equestrian is a new barn. They’re located at the old Twinholm location. I don’t know much about it besides the fact that they revamped the entire facility. I’ve heard good things about the coaching.

Chris Sorensen is currently in Europe and Datcy is runnin her business out of the Nobleton/King area. Forest Hill is not close to Guelph.

Also Mike Grinyer is great too. He has a smaller group of clients (which I prefer) that mostly do the jumpers. He just renovated his barn too. Again not sure what his prices are.

Glad to see that our tax dollars will be put to good use.

Oh shoot I forgot a super good one! Fox Run Stables with Dieter Werner! Also yes Mike Grinyer is great as well.

I’m an idiot. Totally forgot Peter Gisborn! He may be the best fit for you actually.

Yes, and in Erin, sort of a half way point to Palgrave.

Thank you all very much!
