Jumper/Polo Breast Plate for horse with huge shoulders?

I currently have the Prestige elastic breast plate and the elastic has already become stretched out due to my draft cross’ huge shoulders. I really like the Nunn Finer jumper breast plate but I tried it before and it was just too small for my big guy who is 16.3 and probably 1600 lbs.

Happy to hear about other options out there in a jumper or polo style as I really don’t want another Y shaped or 5-Point collar but that may be my only option given his size?

Thanks for the help

Well I’m answering my own question I guess. Found this: https://warmbloodtackstore.com/collections/martingales-breastplates-1/products/exselle-elite-breast-collar?variant=25478285832

Dover doesn’t sell it anymore, but they used to have an elastic jumper breastplate that was easily configurable into a ‘hunt strap’ type BP. It ran flipping huge; I have a full size that is almost too big for my oversize TB. It’s a Y-JUMPER breastplate style though.

Not the size you need, but I am 90% this is the one I have:

Thanks Beowulf. I ordered the one at the Warmblood Tack Store since it’s reasonable. Fortunately I bought the Prestige I’m currently using, used but in very good shape. Because if I had paid $263 for it new only to have it stretch out as much as it has, I’d be rather irritated - and yes, I’ve kept it cleaned and maintained. If my big guy is pretty much going to lay waste to them after a season or two of use, I’m going to go the cheaper route.

you’ll have to follow up with how nice the leather is… for $35, if it’s decent, that’s a good bargain. I like my current BP but it’s brown and doesn’t show up too well on my bay of the same color. The one you found comes in my colors… so…

I will let you know!

I love this breastplate! One of my favorite pieces of tack for sure. It’s adjustable at a lot of places. Added bonus that the martingale actually adjusts long enough unlike a lot of running martingale attachments for breastplates. My only thing I don’t like is I wish the billet attachments were all leather instead of having the nylon loop. But I have had it over a year now and use it 1-2X/week and still looks brand new.

Beowulf, received the breast collar last evening and for the price point the leather is very decent. I’d say average, maybe even a little above average and seems sturdy enough and well-constructed. It is supple and not stiff and I think with some extra conditioning, will be even more so. I think it’s a bargain. I’ll try it out on my horses this coming weekend as I haven’t had a chance to assess it for fit, but I am pleased with the purchase. That it comes with the neck strap too, definitely a bargain if it holds up well.

PS of Sweden makes this one. It’s DREAMY!

I have been covering that one. Especially since my boy will probably always need a breastplate to jump and I don’t like the 3pt ones since his girth slips back with the saddle (yay for being the same width further back >.< )

I like this one but I’m not convinced it’s big enough. It only comes in “full” size and there’s not a warmblood or oversize option.

I had to play catch up at home this weekend with getting my house good and clean in advance of Thanksgiving and getting caught up on laundry and didn’t ride. So no update on this one I bought, but I plan to ride a good bit next weekend, and if I get a chance this week one evening if I can manage it.

Here’s us in the Prestige going Novice at Poplar Place, the weekend before last. This is the Prestige let all the way out and it still looks like it binds at maximum extension. As I said, the rubber on it has become stretched out a bit.

I stumbled across a Stubben polo breastcollar at a consignment shop and snapped it up (it was black with red and white padding!). It is huge; I needed to add a couple of holes for my big solid TB, and it handily fit a full Percheron. I think they still make them in non-custom colors but I’m not 100% sure.

So I finally got around to trying this breast collar on the slimmer of my draft crosses this weekend. https://warmbloodtackstore.com/collections/martingales-breastplates-1/products/exselle-elite-breast-collar?variant=25478285832

Christmas then weather got in the way, but finally on Saturday I was getting back to some cross country schooling and wanted to give this breast collar a go. And darn it, if I don’t think it’s too flippin’ small. I’m going to give it another go maybe tonight to double check. It’s clearly got O/S marked on the tag, but I wound up not using it and just getting on with it. I’ll check it again when I’m not going anywhere but I think I’m back to the drawing board and that maybe a jumper style is just not in the cards for my boys’ big shoulders.

A shame, because for the price, this is a nice and well constructed breast collar. Truly a great price.

I dunno how big your guy is, but I’ve been using this breastcollar on my horse:

http://www.lundsaddlery.com/4-point-collar/

He’s normal-sized, on some of the smallest holes of their Full size. They have a size chart with measurements on that page, maybe you’d be able to tell if the oversize might fit? It’s hard to find that style!

Thanks Ms. Ridiculous. That is an attractive breast collar and a good price. Looks like it only comes in brown though and all of my tack is black. I know, picky, right?

I’ve been told that black is coming soon. Not sure when though… maybe they have a date now?

Well I’m totally eating crow about this one: https://warmbloodtackstore.com/collections/martingales-breastplates-1/products/exselle-elite-breast-collar?variant=25478285832

It does fit. I don’t know what my problem was on Saturday, but I gave it another go this evening and once I got the straps sorted out, I’m very pleased with the sizing and fit. You can’t beat this price!

For anyone else looking for a breastplate, I recently bought the most gorgeous BP from Schneider’s and it is so adjustable: http://www.sstack.com/product/joseph-sterling-raised-adjustable-breastplate-with-running-martingale-attachement/

It might not fit absolutely huge horses but it adjusts a ton and I was so impressed with the leather. It is gorgeous especially for the price.

Hahaha, next time I should read the whole thread. Woodhillsmanhattan and I have the same tastes in awesome breastplates.
