What are Holsteiner Jumper stallions that throw long legged foals that are compact and short in the back?
Capone I throws compact. My stallion is by Capone I and is extremely short backed, compact and powerfully built. He throws it too.
This is not an ad…I’m stating the facts…
You might check out Torino of www.jumpstartfarm.com. My colt by him is very long legged, very well built and of good back length. Torino has unbelievable scope and temperament. I love this colt.
Ironman throws compact backs, and usually a good amount of leg,

Holsteiner stallions that tend to throw long legs and short backs…
I don’t know enough about the Holsteiner’s but don’t they tend to be more toward the longer back, shorter legs (this is no way meant as a negative comment) and not into the ‘modern’ long leg, short back? I do not recall ever seeing a Holsteiner that was long legged and short backed like I have seen with the Dutch and the Hanoverian. Holsteiner breeders help me out here, have I just not see them?
I would breed to Cotopaxi but maybe his owner could chime in and comment on the long legs, short back combo in Holsteiners.
I’ve heard that over and over again about Capone I too - short, compact power package and puts it on the ground.
I have a mare that I was seriously thinking of taking to him. She is rather long backed herself, but her offspring are ALL very shortbacked despite the stallion I bred to not being that shortbacked so I decided to go another route.
I have handled both the Holstein stallions Cotopaxi and Capone at home and at shows, seen a number of offspring from both and I have had offspring of my own from both. Both stallions stand solidly over 16.1, both solid compact builds with exempliary strength in their toplines, out of Holstein, they have both stood out from what I typically see . And they both improve the typical hind end connections and toplines of the mares I have seen them put to. Neither seem to add legginess but rather are proportional, Cotopaxi has more stride, more supple through the body and is less heavy through the body which is why he seems leggier while he is pretty much the same length of leg. Cotopaxi , I know throws a range of heights depending on the genetics behind the mare, some a lot taller than he out of shorter mares, others the height of the mare. Capone , I have seen a tendency to shorter fillies.
Both these Holstein stallions jump like stink with different strengths and I have absolutely loved working with both of these stallions, they humble me. I don’t want to go too much into comparrison just commenting on what I have observed first hand that these two Holstein stallions mentioned above offer in terms of what the poster was looking for.
There are leggier Holstein stallions like Linaro but I don’t know about him first hand to comment on him.

VDL Ulando H, whose sire is Corland (Cor de la Bryere x Landgraf).
He matches all three criteria to a “T” - jumper stallion with predominantly Holsteiner blood, producing loooong legs & a shortened back in his progeny, with the added bonus of passing on great temperaments (and some bling too)!
I owned this stallion during his early years, during which time he produced over 40 foals in Canada. He is now with Ruth Armstrong at Armstrong Farms.

There is a picture of one of his progeny on my blog (link below). It’s the picture of the mare and foal at the top of the page, and it shows a nice comparison of the dam and her colt. If you want to email me, I can send you more photos from my files.
The HOL Riverman. My gelding by him is 17-1, has long legs (obviously):lol:and is compact.
I definitely am looking for a stallion that will more than anything help shorten my mares back. Her back is not quite as long as a limousine but similar to an SUV…I want something as short as a VW bug! I would like to find a proven jumper stallion and he does not have to be a stallion in the US. Any help would be fabulous!!
I love the Cassini line. Beautiful cookie cutter athletic horses that are as stunning as the stallion.
October Hill Farm’s Mezcalero certainly shortened the back when bred to my G-line mare, as well as adding in the leg and height department as well.

Good luck with that. I purchased a breeding to him, too; two years and $3500+vet fees later, I have yet to even see any viable semen.
Catoki may fit the bill. Or I have seen quite a few Contender sons that have shorter backs like Caretano Z.
Not approved Holsteiner, but Holsteiner blood… look at the stallion full-brothers Balta’Czar and Aslan. They both are very prepotent for throwing a shorter back, well-coupled loin and long legs (especially Aslan). They both inherit this trait from their dam, Jete, who is a double Cor de la Bryere mare. She also consistently passes this onto her offspring. Your mare will have to be very, very prepotent to fight off the genetics of these boys when it comes to a shorter, stronger back and loin.
I have an Aslan gelding out in my pasture that I bred that I still take care of for his new owner… super back, super coupling, L O N G legs, fabulous hind end and a 12 on the athletic scale.
Good luck with that. I purchased a breeding to him, too
No, I said in my post that I DIDN’T breed to him and decided to go with a different stallion. Sorry you’ve had trouble, though.
Isn’t it Voltaire that is very very known to throw short-backed offspring - just make sure you breed Voltaire blood to a bloodline that is known for bravery because he does tend to be too careful.

This boy has the Cassini line and is short backed with long legs. It will be interesting to see his first crop in 2014. Check him out www.hshorses.com
You might consider Vallado / Praise. He is by Now or Never M (Nimmerdor / Voltaire) and out of a Saros xx mother. He produces compact offspring and crosses extremely well with Holsteiner mares. His son, Validation, was exported to Germany and currently has the 2nd highest qualifying score for 6 year old young jumpers. Kelley Farmer is the contact for him.
Holsteiner stallion Lotus T - long legged foals every time
My stallion Lotus T has been producing very long legged, elegant, uphill foals with strong backs. He has been bred to a large number of short-legged, very long backed old-fashioned mares (sometimes with down-hill built and roach backs) for over a decade and he has definitely established himself to correct those conformation issues. It’s also nice that on top of that he improves on the temperament, movement and the jumping ability of the mare as well!
It’s my understanding mares do better for breeding being a bit long back so I don’t think having a mare a bit long is bad.
There are so many nice stallions out there I noticed prima equestrian has semen from a couple stallions from overseas and one of them was very scoped and nice looking! They are Kwpn registered though.

:lol::lol::lol::lol: Thanks for making my day! I love Cunningham but I don’t know if he’s the one you are looking for.
