Jumping saddle that fits like Black Country native tree (broad wither, some curve to back)

Had a great time with a saddle fitter today. I mainly ride dressage, but still enjoy jumping and my jump saddle did not work. I rode in a Black Country GP Eventing saddle on a native tree, which the saddle fitter explained was a newer tree designed for American native breeds like Morgans, QHs, etc. Not in the budget to buy a new/custom jump saddle, so wanted ideas on used jump saddles to consider that fit the broad-withered, wide guy with some curve to his back (he’s a Standardbred). Thanks!

I feel your pain on wide and curvy! I’ve had a really hard time finding saddles for my mare with the same description. My saddle fitter also had me ride in one of her Black Country demo saddles that had a Native tree, and said it fit my horse well. It was the endurance model saddle so not what I was looking for in terms of rider position, so we tried some other dressage models. My horse actually went best in the Eden, which is typically recommended for OTTBs and other shark-fin types. Unfortunately they only make a dressage saddle on the Eden tree, so I was still looking for a jumping saddle.

I tried ordering a saddle online from a company that specializes in short backed and wide ponies, with help from the brand’s owner and my local fitter. The saddle is lovely and very well made, but it wasn’t curvy enough for my horse. Eventually we ended up with a wide Amerigo Vega which my horse seems to adore. I know tree widths are super variable so it’s not the best gauge of fit, but if it helps my horse goes in a wide BC Eden and a 2.5 fit Vega.

Hope this helps!

Try a Bliss of London. I have the jumping/eventing mono flap and it fits my wide haflinger who usually has saddles bridge on him. As a bonus they’re very comfy for the rider!
