June shows at Bruces Field in Aiken are sold out. PSJ this weekend is very full. Last weekend was fine and I felt comfortable with working off trailer, pre-entries and being outdoors (did wear mask when I went inside to pay at end of show). I’ll be very curious how the June shows at Bruces work - those are A rated so masks are supposed to be on at all times on the ground. If the weather is normal, that won’t be fun running around outside in high 80s with a mask on. Also wondering about the bathroom situation…
First week (original week 2) of Summer in the Rockies is cancelled they say because of some government paperwork. The next 2 weeks are sold out and they are still processing entries for the final 2 weeks. But it remains to be seen what the local restrictions will be by then. I heard they won’t have any tent stalls so entries will be limited. But it appears the class schedule is staying the same. Wonder what kind of #s some divisions will see. They also have not released their Covid procedures except for the new waiver.
I just got that on their update…we are still not going! Im actually surprised they’re trying for as early as July as I thought BC had a limit on the amount of people in one place? I’ll honestly be surprised if it goes ahead! I’m thinking they’ll end up being more local.
We’ve just been allowed back in the barns (yay)…very controlled…we have 2 indoor and 2 outdoor arenas, so 2 of us in each one, times and arenas are strictly scheduled, we each have a 2 hour time slot twice a week to start, masks are to be worn at all times, we enter through one door and must use the hand sanitizer station, tack up and untack in our stalls, and when we leave they spray down stall fronts etc…we also don’t touch anything…so this means they’re cleaning up after us (thus being in our stalls is helping)…so far it’s working well! No school horse lessons yet until we see how our province is handling the reopening and then they’ll be slowly reintroduced, with strict guidelines (basically they’ll show up for their lesson, horse will be tacked up and waiting outside with the instructors and then after instructors will untack, disinfect etc so lessons will have at least 30 minutes between them…student will not be allowed in the barn, cannot wander around property, etc…only 1 parent allowed etc…luckily we are large enough to accommodate and we had a “trial run” at the very beginning before mandatory shutdown when we implemented similar rules and it went well. My trainer is honestly surprised at the amount of people that have been calling for lessons…I guess when you’re locked up you think “hey might as well ride a horse “ lol …sorry not right now!
Here in MD the big local show series (which honestly is a nightmare with four rings running sometimes LOL) cancelled both their June shows. No word yet on the few MD local shows remaining later in June. I think with Deep Run cancelling in VA, the Tryon shows are the only Z3 shows running in June thus far… VA HITS supposed to start first weekend in July, but I am not sure even that will happen.
Blenheim cancelled the first two of the June series, and the first one that they are currently planning on is Red, White, and Blue that starts the week of June 24. The management team, AKA Robert Ridland, sends out updates at least once a week and is being transparent about the process. The protocols have to be approved not only with USEF but with local governments as well.
