June Shows

I’m surprised Derek Braun keeps saying Split Rock KY is going… gatherings of 50 people aren’t supposed to start until at least July in KY.

For some reason certain horse shows don’t seem to consider themselves as falling under mass gathering restrictions. I thought USEF had said that they were. I wonder what justification shows are using with the states to avoid those restrictions - that there aren’t that many people in the ring at once.

HITS just put out an update video

Yeah, I am guessing he did that live video right after the news conference with the governor, not sure if they’re taking into account the gathering piece. Just because they open the center doesn’t mean they will allow shows - Los Angeles is dealing with the same right now.

Right after they announced that equestrian centers in LA County we’re allowed to open, apparently a sign appeared at LAEC that it was closed to the public. That would preclude horse shows.

Blenheim Oaks is hoping to start after the middle of June, but that’s OC, not LA. I don’t think LA will will reach the point of zero deaths in two weeks for months, so that standard might need to be adjusted.

Yeah, I know, I am friends with a trainer there. It’s crazy because LAEC and Hansen Dam are considered “LA City” not LA County because of the parks department. Weird

I think most (all?) of the non-incorporated areas of LA county are considered city of Los Angeles. That includes large portions of the San Fernando Valley, but not Burbank or Glendale.

There’s some odd stuff though. I grew up in an area with a Santa Monica zip code that was part of the city of Los Angeles. Cue massive confusion, especially when you needed emergency services bc both cities thought we belonged to the other. And the city of Long Beach has it’s own health department and is thus excluded from some of the county health regulations.

Apparently it’s a go with FEI 2* rating.

Yea just confused HOW KY is allowing that (400 horses estimated… def more than 50 people)… but not my monkey I guess!

I’m wondering how Traverse City in June is going to happen? Michigan just started opening with manufacturing. I also wonder why people in Traverse area would want people coming in from all over. The Cherry festival was canceled which is usually the first week of July. I’m also agree with other posters about large gatherings. Aren’t horse shows large gatherings?

How could that be when FEI has not indicated any date for opening and the video that Tom from HITS put out yesterday, he says they’d like Saugerties to of course be FEI but that it is very up in the air since they have not committed. They seem like they’re going to be stricter than USEF. Maybe he’s jumping the gun to say all of this?

Thunderbird is still trying for June shows. And they have been phoning riders to see if they are coming. Most people are passing on it from what I gather.

We haven’t received a call from Tbird as far as I know yet, but we wouldn’t be going anyway… no way are we anywhere near being able to show, in any Province! I’m disappointed if they are trying this!

ESP has their Spring series prize list out with dates starting June 1 in Wellington

Yes, you have to be local - you can’t come if you have to stay in a hotel/airbnb.

That’s interesting because as far as I know half of Wellington is moving into TIEC come June 1. The stall numbers they requested are crazy!!!

Interesting that riders aren’t allowed in there stables, only grooms and trainers. So for all of us who don’t have grooms, we would have to declare ourselves as grooms instead.

I think it was more so the local farms. I heard it from a friend. They also sponsor so maybe they called because of that as well. Either way friend isn’t showing. Might try late summer.

Will be interesting to see if they have a June show. I don’t agree with them trying since pretty sure BC is under a no sports/no over 50 people etc type rules.

Deep Run was just cancelled in Virginia for mid-June. My local circuit is going to revisit opening again in early July. I was not planning to show anytime soon so it is just as well.
