I believe there have been a couple of horse shows, including Saratoga, that initially said there would be no braiding allowed, but revised that after conferring with the braiders about following safety protocols to braid them.
Vxf111, I’m very sorry about the loss of your friend.
You are right, and I’m surprised that someone who lives in Texas is so unaware of what is happening there.
Texas has over 41,000 cases and has averaged 1,000+ new cases every day for the past seven days, which is an increase over the 2 weeks previous. Cases and deaths are definitely increasing in Texas.
I totally agreed with you that precautions should be followed. 🤷 This is not the time to pretend it doesn’t exist. There are plenty of guidelines that have been issued and people should follow those guidelines. I am doing that and probably leave my farm less often than the vast majority of the population.
I hope everyone is following the guidelines that are applicable to the state they live in. And does whatever makes them feel safe above and beyond that. It’s really all we can do. 😀
For the record, there are a lot of stories like this. One woman in her 50s who coded in the hospital right in front of the techs while they were waiting for her to get off the phone so they could get an EKG. Here’s another of a baseball coach in his 30s. https://www.buzzfeednews.com/article…ben-luderer-30
In addition, for people who are hospitalized but don’t die, there’s a real risk of long term permanent health effects. SARS survivors still have health impacts 12 years later. This disease seems to be more like polio than like flu.
I think Lake Placid requires more prep time that HITS which is why they cancelled now, much like Upperville cancelled pretty early on. I’m not as familiar with Saratoga. That being said, I still would be very surprised if the June HITS shows run.
I wondered about Brownland earlier. Gatherings of 100 or more people aren’t supposed to take places until phase 4 in Tennessee. I don’t think they’ve started phase 2 yet and Nashville is behind some of the other parts of the state. At a minimum of two weeks per phase, they’d have to start phase 2 in the next few days to make 17 June. So still possible but less likely the longer it takes to move to the next phase?
Bolding is mine. I have used harsh words at times and I apologize for doing so and will try to be more diplomatic. However, this is a worldwide pandemic. The vius respects no boundaries, no continent, no country and certainly no state lines.
It is terrible that this world heath crises is being politicized. It is a shame that the many U.S. politicians are making political hay out of the lives of their citizens.
For your sake and for the sake of those around you, please don’t depend on politicians to give you medical advice.
There is data and information that is easily accessed online, written by scientists with no political agenda, no interest other than trying to stop the damage being done by this virus. and they aren’t going to tell you what they think you want to hear, as will some politicians.
At least read the CDC and the WHO information that is available.
I am stunned that people seem just fine with having politicians make life or death decisions for them without first educating themselves about the virus.
There are some incredibly selfish and ignorant elected officials out there.that are ignoring the advice of scientists and medical professionals.
Please don’t take for granted, that whichever politician makes decisions about public health in your state, is an intelligent, well informed person with your best interests at heart. Some of them are, and many of them are not.
Considering the terrible consequences this virus has already dealt, and how much is not yet known about it, we must educate ourselves, and that can be done only by reading the continuing work of medical professionals and scientists.
Or you can have blind faith. If you read the science you will at least be able to make an educated guess and to decide for yourself if your elected officials are well informed, or if they are playing fast and loose with your life.
You are taking things posted way too literally and deciding that it is up to you convince the entire world that they should live exactly as you do. Everyone should educate themselves and live according to their own comfort level, based on the risks in their area.
I never intended any post that I made on a HORSE related bulletin board to be a full dissertation on my views on the virus. Guess I’ll start adding that disclaimer. 🙄🙄🙄
Edited to add: My place of employment has been open for business as normal the entire time. We are critical manufacturing. I’ve come in 1-2 times per week and worked from home the remaining time. My personal experience may be different because I have experienced SAFELY working. Many precautions are in place and being taken seriously.

Looking at the big picture though- my company’s manufacturing has kept going, as well. And non manufacturing employees have stayed remote. The company put out a flat statement “to protect the essential workers in manufacturing”.
People tend to see only their own circle, and not the big picture “oh it hasn’t affected me”.
I say this not coming one way or another, as I have been riding and lessoning during this pandemic. But as someone working with the virus- it is important to broaden your perhaps narrow view. Food for thought.
sounds great on paper. BUT at an AA or even an A show people come from all over. Including from “hot spots”. So they take the alleged safe spot and turn it into a hot spot. THAT is how it works.
Bless your heart
That is the problem.
All the regular Arab shows in my region that come before Regionals in July have been cancelled, but Regionals is still provisionally on, with qualifying being waived.
While it might seem like a great chance to jump in to showing at Regionals, the idea that they’re aggregating folks from not only New England and NY, but also other regions, since they haven’t had to show in Region 16 to qualify, makes me think the place is going to be one big Petri dish.
Saugerties: they will have a definite answer by Tuesday at the latest for June show. The mid-Hudson region is not in phase 1 yet. Probably won’t do FEI in July because they don’t think points will count.
Lamplight: optimistic for June shows. Illinois should be in Phase 3 by the end of the month.
Culpeper: expecting to run July shows.
Personal observations: I was surprised that he said that horse shows could start in NY during phase 1. I would have thought they would be subject to mass gathering rules. I was not impressed that he seemed to take a shot at NY horse shows that have decided to cancel.
