I am going through my daughter’s riding clothes to see what she has outgrown and trying to replace anything that doesn’t fit. She hunted last season (her first season) in just her show clothes (and a stock) but she wanted to have a vest this season and I am having a hard time finding one! Does anyone have recommendations on where to find a child’s size vest?
Thanks for the reply! I clarified child’s size in my original post now. She is 8, so any of the women’s sized vests would be too big.
It’s hard to find youth sized wool hunting vests–I’m not 100% sure they exist. You can make do by buying a yellow wool v-necked pull-over vest, which will take a little searching, but the effect under a riding jacket is quite good, and it adds a comfortable layer of warmth. If you really want to find a child’s sized canary wool vest, your best bet would be to look through vendors in the UK. However, even across the pond where there is a much larger selection of children’s hunting attire, they are more laid back about children’s turnout–children over there are dressed tidily but very practically.
If you are looking to upgrade a child’s hunting wardrobe, my suggestion would be to go for an inexpensive yellow pullover v necked vest and then spend the $$ on a wool hunting jacket or another practical item like warmer boots, warm socks, gloves etc.
I don’t believe Jr. riders need or are required to wear vests - I would contact Hunt Country Saddlery in Warrenton, Va.
