just aquired a 10 month pregnant mare...now what

Total newbie, please help. Whats the best feed, hay, worming, vaccination schedule? Is it too late to gender test?

Way too much to learn in too short of a period of time. You really need to get her to someone who knows what they are doing pronto.

30 days from foaling vacinations need to be done…depends on your area and what is stardard for mares prior to foaling in your area. Check with your Vet…minimum of 5-way plus West Nile.
I would worm now, unless she has been on a regular worming schedule, and worm again with Ivermection within 12 hours of foaling.
Feeding depends on her current weight. Free choice quality hay, a good vitamin/mineral supplement…and if she is thin slowly build her up on a good broodmare grain ration.
Fetal sexing has to be done early. I think at 60 to 70 days?
Safe place for foaling…big clean box stall or a clean grass paddock where you can keep an eye on her. Some mares are sneaky when foaling…LOL
Is she a maiden or has she had foals previously? Can make a difference in predicting. Get her used to having her udder washed and handled…gently of course.
Ask lots of questions and tell us a bit more about the mare.

She did have one previous foal last year and foaled out easily. Im trying to find a place to foal her out or someone to come out to the farm to foal her.

Where are you located? Maybe we can suggest a place.

When a mare goes into labor, foaling is VERY quick. No time to call someone to come out. She needs to be at a facility with experienced people right away. And if something goes wrong, someone knowledgeable needs to be there at the time.

Where are you located and maybe we can suggest a place.

Bucks County, Pa

Ask your vet whether there are any foaling facilities near you. Or you can look at the PA Horse Breeders website, specifically the stallion roster:

http://pabred.com/roster/roster.php

Some of the TB farms listed there will foal out mares & you may find one near you, if you don’t want to send her too far away.

Good luck.
