Just curious if anyone has used Arko III in the last year or so…??? I see lots of older posts but was looking for more recent information.

I have a tall EscudoI/wembly/Shogunxx mare Hanoverian that I think is the type for this stallion. Just curious if any successes with his semen.

Looking for a jumper sire that jumps close ot the base. this mare tends to stands back from the base but has good scope and ratability in gaits.

Genevieve Ghilotti at Glenhill Farms had some Arko III recently but I am not sure if she tried using it but I am sure she would tell you the results if she has tried.

Try asking the question on the Horse and Hound breeding forum. Arko III is very successful there. PatO

I personally would look for a more modern stallion for your mare with more blood if you are looking for something that will jump closer to the base. The reason most horses take off far away from the base of the fence is because they lack the quickness in front to clear the front rail.

If I have the correct mare (Escada), then her blood content is less than Arko III at 31.25%. The potential cross would create a foal with 30.27% blood.

Is your mare quick off the ground? I rode quite a few Arko III offspring when I was riding in Europe a few years ago and granted, I knew nothing about the mares, but they all took a lot after their grand sire Argentinus both in their conformation and jumping styles, plenty of power, scope and rideability, but not much blood, a bit slow off the ground and not much refinement in type.

Here is one of the Arko III 8 Year Old Stallion that I was able to work with.

Just my thoughts

I always really liked Arko, and tried to re-create a modern version of him when breeding my Beach Boy mare. As Argentinus semen was so difficult, I bred the mare to Apiro. The resulting foal is 49% blood and very much a modern riding horse with good reflexes. Perhaps you could get the result you’re looking for as Ryu suggested by picking a stallion with slightly more blood.

Bannockburn Farm LLC has been using Arko III semen since 2010 with the resulting foals ;Mare Legacy B / out of Aleria M / Chin Chin / Canaletto ; Gelding Majestic B / out of Enchantment B / Simsalabim / Indoctro and filly Olivia B / out of Elite M / Quidam de Revel / Calando IV . Semen has worked well and I love the resulting foals. Just the right size and very modern looking.

Allyn, how was the quality of the semen?
