Just Curious

I don’t have cats but enjoy reading about yours here.

I saw a commercial for a cat “toy” that functions like a hamster wheel. Has anyone bought one, and did your cat use it? I would think that older kittens might be game, but the wheel in the commercial looked pretty big.

My friend has a cat wheel and 3 cats (or is it 4?). It is large, 3.5ft ish tall? They keep it in one of the bedrooms which said friend sometimes sleeps in. She says the youngest kitty likes to use it in the middle of the night. The older, tubby kitties who need exercise never touch it. It can be decently loud. I’ve said no way no how RE getting one for our own cats. We have no place and I know they (the thinner cat I’m sure, not the chunk) would use it at the most inopportune times. We are the crazy cat people who have wall mounted kitty play things - shelves, bowls, and scratchers. IMO they look nicer than one large a$$ tower and give kitty more space to play.

I’d love to try a cat wheel but they are quite large and our place is small. There’s only one of mine I could envision using it without significant motivation. As an alternative, I’ll pop the high energy guy on my desk walking pad sporadically and make him trot for a bit to burn off some energy.

It’s interesting that they use it at night. My sister’s guinea pig would really get his going at night and when he was at full speed his cage would rattle against the wall and wake us. My father called him Harvey Wallbanger and, although we moved his cage so it wasn’t rattling against wall, the name stuck.
