Riderās name is Simon Delestre from France.
Stupid accident to have a rein break at the Olympicsā¦
Cost is 4 points for circling plus 2 times faults and having France not participating in the second leg of the team competitionā¦
I did later get the name⦠But seriously that is some RIDING WOW!
Does anyone have access to the video. I backed it up a few times on my DVR and something was still attached. He had ahold of something in his right hand, it seemed but then there was a shorter piece closer to the saddle that looked like a broken strap - couldnāt figure it out⦠like weird reins or somethingā¦
They showed it slow mo it pops right at the bit off! But he has it in his hands (stuck to the martingale?) but they showed nothing on that side of the bit.
That is just amazing to me. And then after the jump you have to ride around with everyone clapping and stuffā¦
Okay maybe its just me but I would have competely frozen lol

Itās at about 1:52:45 on the NBC replay. I rewatched it a few times to try and see what happened.
I saw that happen live and I screamed.
Such a heartbreak!
It did cost Franceās spot in the team finals.
I heard Simon D.'s interview afterwardsā¦he was still in shock, says the metal hook on the rein broke right at the bit. He tried to keep his line on landing, saw it wouldnāt happen, circled, and he says he doesnāt even remember how he made it over the last jump. He was so dismayed, said his horse was going just perfectlyā¦He was clear, too. I felt so bad for him.
Fingers crossed for him, he may still get his chance individually.
I donāt know if I dare go there, but the metal parts are all made offshore and perhaps the quality control is not the same. A fellow here was hunting and his bit broke (Korsteel) - that would never happen with - say - an Eldonian in days of yore.
We pay a fortune for quality leather, but have no control on the bits and bobs -
like leadshank clasps that break when they never used to, or the chrome peels off. Buy brass, and it still breaks.
What a way to lose your place in the final.
I was completely amazed at how he managed to safely circle out, get the horse STRAIGHT again and over the fence. That was a tremendous piece of riding on his part!
Definitely some amazing riding!! Glad to see he made it to the individualsā¦
That horse is VERY quirky as well- takes some true riding skills and the ability to think in ācrisis modeā to make things go right!
Wonderful effort on his part⦠he did take it very personally and was very sad about it⦠like I said, will be glad to watch him again for the individual rounds!
