Justify draws PP #7 in 8 horse Preakness field

Thought it was time for a new thread concentrating on this race instead of tagging along with all the jumbled side discussions on the other three threads.

Anyway, only Bravazo outside him. Quips in the #1 and GM around #4 or 5. Absolutely perfect break not looking like a key to win this one with no thundering herd of too many horses. Should favor an honest effort from the best horse out there on Sat. We will have to wait to see who that will be but there won’t be so many valid excuses for disappointing performances.

MC???

Yes, Justify PP7 in the 8 horse field. Good Magic is PP5.

Morning line appears to think it is a 2 horse race (no one else is less than 10-1).

Quip is 12-1 and 3rd in the morning line.

I suspect MS will again hustle Justify out of the gate and make sure he is well positioned for the remainder of the race.

I didn’t mind all the side discussions instead of 4 or 5 threads  but that’s just me

A speed favoring sloppy track gets some of them. If Mike can just keep him in a tire track he should be fine.

It’s going to be very sloppy. If Quip doesn’t break clean he wont be able to set the pace. I think Justify’s biggest issues will be Quip and Ten Fold

I’m disappointed in the size of the field. Where is everybody? I haven’t been following too closely so I was expecting at least 10 - 12 horses.

Trainers said after the Derby they didn’t want to try him again and will see him at Saratoga. TP has not stayed on the TC trail at all in the last few years if his colts don’t shine in the Derby, preferring to rest them, let them mature more and come back fresh and eager in the summer. Or so he told reporters and I’ve no reason to doubt that. It’s quite sensible and he’s successful enough to get his owners on board with that.

Between another sloppy race and a big horse, if I’m an owner, I wouldn’t want more of that. Sometimes when there’s a really big horse running, tracks have to offer incentives to fill the field. This one wins again, it might come to that. Plus these days there just aren’t that many out there running and small fields are the norm even in marquee stakes races.

Watching them saddle Justify they sponged him down. I’ve heard of doing that when it is really hot but not when it’s raining? Anyone know?
