Kan Teq Body Protector

Does anyone have one of these? Just saw it in Eventing UK magazine. I really like how it covers the collar bone area so well. If anyone has one, please tell me where you bought it, and how it fits. www.kanteq.com

interesting. The vest itself looks like it is shaped just like a RP.
1/2 shoulder protection is different.

I wonder though, in the end, when you land hard on your side and your shoulder is crunched into your collar bone (causing the collar bone to snap or crack) if these would actually do any good…
The look like the add a little fluff to the top but not really the point of the shoulder.

Taking “…taking full consideration of the female form…” really doesn’t do me a heck of a lot of good.

Do you have to have the smoky eyed “come-hither” expression when you wear it? Not sure I could pull that off.

The Kan Teq is a clever piece of kit as made of smart foam which hardens on impact and does not degrade like all other body protectors. There are two shapes one for more flat chested and curvacious

The vast majority of clavicle fractures in riding falls are actually axial or torsional loading injuries. ‘Covering’ your collarbone won’t help with those.

Will it protect your collarbone from impact with a hoof or other object? Only to a point – if there’s enough force, the clavicle will still break.

Thanks for all the info. I guess I really need to decide what to get. EXO or maybe the new inflatable vest. I pushing 50, and I want to look after myself as best I can!

Do a search here and on the Horse & Hound forum and you’ll see that the ‘safety’ merits of the air jacket are limited and dubious. The EXO, OTOH, is a serious safety product.

Lucinda and Clayton Fredericks use the air jacket.

Lucinda mentioned that the times she has worn it and hit the ground she just bounced right up and felt fine the next day…

The question is what sort of falls did she have? I know I had plenty of falls in my Tipperary that I got right up and felt fine the next day. And then there were others where it was a painful drive home.

In some ways this is the same as arguments for and against magnetic blankets. The science and engineering say “no” but there is anecdotal stories that say “yes.”

I know the EXO is not prefect. There is no perfect vest since injury can be sustained regardless of how much protection is provided. It comes down to a pressure differential applied over a very limited time.

And you know what else? There are times she’s just been wearing a t-shirt and fallen and ‘bounced right up and felt fine the next day.’

The smart foam on the Kan Teq is intriguing, especially for folks like me who are an APPALLING fit in the open-celled foam that Rodney Powell/Charles Owen/etc. are using.

But with my extremely short torso, I wouldn’t dare order one with Kan Teq’s bizarre sizing instructions. It’s all based on my dress size and whether I’m taller or shorter than 5’7". Sorry dahlings, but I dare you to try and fit this body with that system.

well, she said of the times she has worn it and fallen vs not worn it and fallen she has felt much better the next day if she wore it.

And I don’t think they have the sponsorship for the vest. All of their gear that is sponsored if from Champion.

I saw my first air bag fall Sunday and I am sold on it. I said to myself “He’s not getting up from that one.” Well, he got up alright and he was fine.

Bought a Kan from the Rep (Wendy) that came to an event and did all my measurements there. Here’s the thing about how the Kan fits, though. It has only a few different sizes of armor. These are held together by the outer fabric. They open and close to fit any rider - because it is the size of the shell fabric that matters. It doesn’t seem that hard to fit this vest. But I am not a fitter…
What I can say is that I just want my old vest to go in the trash can after seeing the Kan. It seems like nothing at all in comparison. And the Kan gives me good range of motion. I like that it assumes I have a shape and doesn’t squash me. The shoulder pieces are supposed to be the important part about protecting that collar bone. From direct impact. It’s one of the things Wendy was pretty specific about. At first the shoulder pieces seem like they would get in the way, but they do not.
As for comparing it to air vests, I wouldn’t look at it as an either-or option. I would just say that if I have a roll-over fall where the airvest won’t help, I’d much rather have a Kan than my old vest.

I’m extremely short waisted and was trying to shove my boobs into a Charles Owen child’s size large. It wasn’t going well. Got fit for a KAN at the convention, and I love it. I’ve competed in it once–SO much easier to breathe! Love it!

I really like the way the Kan fïts. I got to test it a few months ago, but I fell in a water jump so probably not the best time to judge since I think the water helped cushion my fall.

After that happened I decided to wash the cover and it wasn’t easy to put back together. I couldn’t find the directions in the literature she gave me. Maybe they are online somewhere, but I didn’t look.
