Kannan Offspring

Anyone have any experience? What type of temperament do they tend to lean towards? Does he add height/ size?

He will add height, power, scope and a good attitude.

not that i am an expert in kannan offspring but the recent hannoverian licensing and the preselection in westfalia had one kannan son to offer each.

the one on westfalia was an oldfashioned heavy horse of mid to small size (1,65 at max) and made it to the hard ground inspection after jumping at liberty. i had missed the jumping but people said, his jumping was average at best, poor to be realistic, and the only reason he had made it to the hardground inspection was pedigree:
kannan.
he was not accepted for the licensing and i couldn’t agree more. the horse reflected a regress in breeding, at least with repsect to type and move on the hardground. (he might turn out to be a super spoirt horse under saddle in due course, who knows.)

the second kannan in hannover/verden last week was a sparkling dark liver chestnut with blond long hair - incredible colour!
colour, however, was all he had to offer.
same regress in breeding woith respect to exterieur, small to midsize (1,63) and all in all a lot like the one in westfalia before:
oldfashioned, heavy, opposite of a modern horse and poor gaites, even for a jumper.
so i was curious to see the jumping at liberty since my logic was:
“he must be here for a reason. if he looks so suboptimal, he certainly is a super jumper!”

oh well.
about the poorest jumping to be seen that day, close to ridicolous.
i figured the one in westfalia must have been similar. the way people had described the jumping of the westfalian one to me perfectly suited the one in verden.
behaviour, however, was outspoken:
nasty.
bold.

he was not licensed.
again:
he might turn out to become a super sport horse under saddle one day.

that much about the two kannan’s i have seen in the last two weeks and no, thank you.
my breeding advice for kannan based on these two sons (who didn’t come from some amateur breeder’s backyard but have already been somewhat preselected by their owners and a committee):
kannan is a real challange to breed to.
not for me.

after all, these are only two out of 6.000 kids by kannan reported world wide.
so i guess the remaining 5.998 certainly have more to offer.
at least those who have been proven in sport.

I have only seen (many, many) of his offpsring online and have to agree with fannie mae. They are all, as the French would say, “correct” but nothing outstanding from what I have seen. Of course there are plenty of them out there - I would be more tempted to buy a weanling or yearling on the ground already than breed to him again.

I have a Kannan mare from a Holsteiner mother. She is not modern in type, but feminine and attractive. Frame is medium to med. heavy, sticked at 1.66.
She is powerful, very well muscled and developed. Her gaits are good, she earned all 7.5 at her KWPN inspection. Jumping also very good, scopey with good technique (8.0), they would prefer she had quicker reflexes, (she has more hunter type reflexes) , which are fine by me. She is a cooler tempered mare, very easy to work with. She has produced very nicely IMO, the foals move well, are nice to work with, correct foundations and seem to jump well. There are plenty of ‘Modern’ stallions to choose from for her, I like that she adds frame, power and some substance to her foals. Kannan is a good producer for sport, and I think many have good minds and are more rideable for a wider audience.

I worked with a lot of Kannan offspring. Agree that they are older fashioned in type, can be a bit heavy footed. Lot of power normally. I didn’t like their attitudes as they tended to be a bit dumb, and not responsive.
However with the right rider on, they showed a lot of power and scope

Was searching for another stallion (Comilfo Plus Z) and saw a Kannan-stallion at Zangersheide named George Z, beefy but yay he could jump!

Unrelated to the topic at hand but…I am intrigued by the photo of H&M Carlito C in the photo series posted by TrotTrotPumpkn. What sort of water obstacle and class is that? I have never seen a showjumper asked to go through water. Seems counter productive to teach a show jumper to go through water if you also want them to jump over it without putting a foot in. Looks like a lot of fun though.

The whole course from what can be seen in the photo is very unusual. It’s obviously some kind of derby course with natural obstacles. The scoreboard on the right side says Aachen, but that could just be an ad.

it is aachen.
there is a speed derby class every year, too.

I forgot that Padock du Plessis is by Kannan. I love, love, love this stallion:
