I am in the market for a new helmet. I want one with a larger brim so I have narrowed it down to the GPA First Lady or the Kask Star Lady. I have been able to try on the GPA at my local tack shop and while I like it I still would like to be able to try the Kask on before making up my mind. I can easily order it and return it if I don’t like it but before I did that I thought I would ask your opinions on the Kask helmets. Do you love them? Hate them? My husband has Kask bicycle helmets and loves them.
My only opinion is that the kask looks nicer. I hate the way the GPA first lady looks, like big bug eyes on top of the riders’ head. I think it looks like the face of a preying mantis.
Any idea if the Kask helmets have any safety benefits/features over the Samshield and GPA helmets?
From my research so far it is comparable in safely to Samshields. I like how you can customize the size with different washable liners to get a prefect fit. I love my Charles Owens but that is my #1 complaint that I can’t wash the liner.
A vote for Kask from me. Having tried on both, I like the fit and profile of the Kask much better.
I currently have a Samshield that has reached the 5 year mark and it’s about time I replace it. I would happily purchase another, but I am really into the Star Lady and feel like giving it a try.
I would love to pics of people wearing their Kask helmets, I have barely seen anyone actually wearing one. If you are a proud Kask supporter please share those selfies!
I have the GPA and love it.
Choose the one you like best.
Love, love, love my KASK helmet! It’s hard for me to pull off some of the helmet styles, but I am happy with the way my Star Lady looks and it is also very comfortable.
Does anyone have any opinions on how they compare fit-wise? Would you say better for rounder or more oval heads?
Kask? I do believe someone has discovered a brand name with which I am unfamiliar! Photos or links? Price point? Always looking for good helmet options!!
I don’t own a Kask and have never ridden in one, but have tried one on (with extreme skepticism, when their rep came into my store before I’d ever heard of the brand!) and was super impressed. The cradle at the nape of the neck is really unique - makes you feel secure without feeling restricted, and the helmet was quite light as well. And I personally think the Star Lady is much prettier than the GPA First Lady.

How would you say it fit? More round or oval?
I went ahead and bit the bullet and ordered the Kask. I have had it for about a month and love it! The removable liner is great! I have a long oval head and it fits me perfectly. That was my #1 complaint about GPA. They fit a rounder head a little better. I got mine from Dressage Extensions. They were having a $50 off orders over $150 so it came out to around $570 with shipping. It is very cool and well ventilated.

See this is so funny b/c I have always found GPA’s to fit oval heads 1000% better than those with round heads. I have a rather round head and GPA’s squeeze the life out of the sides of my head because they are too oval. This make knock Kask’s out for me in terms of fit
I’ve always found that GPAs work for round heads and COs work for oval heads. I’d say 95% of people on the boards would recommend the same thing…
But honestly I think they fit on a helmet to helmet individual basis. I really like trying the exact helmet that I will be going home with.

I’d say round, though it was about a size too big for me so I’m not sure I got the most accurate sense of shape!
Just bought a Kask this month and I am in love with it! I do find it is more round than my CO I was in previously, but not as round as a GPA. I cannot fit in a GPA to save my life but the Kask fits me pretty darn near perfectly.
I just ordered a Kask Star Lady from the tack shop, but haven’t actually seen one in person. Is it appropriate for the hunters?
what options did you get for trim color and such?

I think GPA’s have changed over the years. My first GPA (titium/titanium/stripe/whatever) was purchased in the early aughts (maybe '02 or '03) and it fits my oval head really well. More recently, in shopping for new helmets, I’ve found better fits than I remember in Charles Owen and not as great a fit in GPA as in the old model I have.
Maybe it’s my head that’s changing, not the helmet…(-:
