Who has the Papillon Rouge x Lord Calando? I’d be interested. And I’m only 1.5h away if anyone needs a layover for their horses until they can come retrieve them. I hope they get this sorted ASAP.
I find it sad and scary that someone would gather a group of very nice mares to breed that mostly belonged to other people, fill those owners with crap of how good a life she’d give them, and then let them dwindle to a state of animal control needing to step in?
I wonder what would bring a person to this low place? And when I have a split second of wondering if this person fell on hard times and the tiniest drop of pity for her comes into my brain, I stop myself and think-- stop it! There is absolutely NO reason for this. She didn’t own these horses. How hard would it have been to call them up and say “Hey! [edit] Can you please arrange a new home for her?” It’s senseless…as in we are dealing with a person here with NO good sense. How dreadful and shameful not to give that nice mare to someone who will treat her right. The horse world is far too small to wonder for even a split second whether word will get out about your wrongdoings. It will. And it has.
OP, please contact RateMyHorsePro so they can start tracking this case.
If this case is going to court and/or there are attorneys involved, it may be beneficial for the strength of your case to always preface every statement with either “alleged” or “in my opinion.” Everybody will still be able to read between the lines and your case will be that much stronger for it.
Sending warm jingles your way.
Best,
Amber

Also, a mare desperately needs a home. She is by ZEUS! Perhaps one of his last living daughters. Over 17 hands and the dam of David Wright’s approved stallion, EMBRACE, she will lose her life if no one has a heart and place for her. She is sound, a babysitter/guest horse and ET candidate. Please share this also. [\QUOTE][/QUOTE]
Kate got the Zeus mare from me. I was unable to continue to care for her and Kate offered what sounded like a lush, posh home for an aged broodmare. This was not easy for me. Zena was family. We loved her, respected her, and I idolized her. Every other warmblood was measured against her in my eyes. I gave her up out of desperate need. Kate would only take her in she could own her, so I sold her to Kate for one dollar. We wrote up a bill of sale. Today I asked Kate to please give her up, David Wright who owns Embrace offered to give her a home. (He isn’t the only one) but Kate refuses to let Zena go. I begged her… I asked her why she would insist on keeping a 24 year old high maintenance mare? She responded “I love her”. God forbid Kate ever have children if this is how she shows her love.
I’m sorry… I don’t know how to link this to the post asking if the Zeus mare really had a pony foal. Yes she did, one Spring we had a miscommunication with the vet… After jumping through hoops to clear up an infection and follow a follicle the vet was out of town when we needed a breeding date I order to order semen. Rather than leave her open for a year (the breeding gurus say never to do that with an older mare) I collected my Mothers welsh stallion and took a chance. That was my favorite year… We got a silver buckskin filly which I believe is the only silver buckskin registered by the ISR pony registry. She now belongs to Worth a Shot farm… Where I KNOW she is extremely well cared for and loved.

funny enough this mare called “Haida Rouge” is not now nor was ever on Kate’s property. I spoke w/ her owner and actually helped her to DNA type the mare who we found out is NOT by Papillon Rouge. This is another piece of the now- crumbling facade of Kate Ostermeier
I doubt she allowed HER stallion to starve… sickening…
History repeating itself…on the East coast now…
So sorry for these poor mares and their owners. Can’t AC intervene even if that particular mare belongs to [her]…if she is in poor shape?

This whole situation is heartbreaking. Can you raise funds and see if a nice chunk of cash may persuade her?
Wait! Kentucky is far from the East Coast. It’s over the Appalachians from the East Coast. Heartland, maybe. Upper South, maybe. But not East Coast! <grin>
Kentucky has had many people prey on horses and unsuspecting owners and use them horribly. Home of Wild Eyed and Wicked and his trainers. Home of the guy who killed all those horses in Indiana in a two tier livestock trailer wreck. Home of Churchill Downs where PETA videoed ASSmussen’s horses getting shot after shot to race.
There is also the case in PA last year where “allegedly” many starving horses were taken from the care of a PA based trainer / HB exhibitor / breeder with the SPCA, sheriff and vet in attendance along with the owner of those horses, documenting the repossession of these animals
The last I heard, the SPCA was still gathering evidence to lay charges in this case. No hay. No water (well - except for allegedly a frozen block of ice in a 5 gallon pail for all the horses in that paddock). Horses fighting to eat the manure that was being dropped. Blankets growing into withers and pus filled sores underneath. Allegedly body scores of 2 at best.
Each week or month a new case. East Coast, West Coast, all states and provinces in between. Its truly sickening
Good luck to everyone involved in this latest case …
Situations like this make me sad, and mad. Kudos to those of you who came forward and are working to help rescue those poor horses. I hope she gets prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law, and Wendy, I hope you can get your mare out of there.
Does anyone know what she did with the foals? Were they taken care of? How did she sell them? Or did she operate her foal sales according to the Jill Burnell model - shipping wormy, unthrifty foals to unsuspecting buyers?
Why would the authorities leave the 24 yr old mare with her if the poor horse is in such bad shape?

What was she arrested for?

Driving offense I believe
That would have to be one hell of a traffic ticket to land you in an orange jumpsuit getting your mugshot taken!
Look, if money talks (and it often does), I’m happy to kick in to get the mare out of there. Anyone think this would work? Anyone down that way who could present a cash offer to her if other COTH-ers can rally?
“Seize the horses and slap that b+&*h with a lawsuit for neglect and abuse.”
and that is the polite version of what I was thinking.
