That would have to be one hell of a traffic ticket to land you in an orange jumpsuit getting your mugshot taken!
She posted on Facebook that it was a bench warrant for unpaid tickets…

I know nothing about bench warrants and arrest protocols (fortunately), but getting decked out in Lockup Orange seems excessive to me for unpaid tickets, even if such offense went hand in hand with driving with a suspended license. Does anyone know how likely that is?
Lockup Orange, the new black. LOL
It could also just be a V neck t shirt.
[edit]
It is heartbreaking. I am so sorry for the mares and mare owners.
[edit]
Good luck to the mares, I hope they all recover, and all who are in foal, foal safely.

Mmm, I don’t think so. Unless all these people wore the exact same V-neck shirt at the time of their arrest, too:

(KO is about mid-page)
Not that the accounting here isn’t bad enough but when I heard the retelling it was much more detailed and worse ie one mare is in a sling etc. That is why I asked what she was arrested for as I was hoping it was for this. I would love to share it on my page.
It’s not a money problem
Look, if money talks (and it often does), I’m happy to kick in to get the mare out of there. Anyone think this would work? Anyone down that way who could present a cash offer to her if other COTH-ers can rally?
From what I have heard, from several different sources… Kate’s issues are not money related. It is all hear-say but the hear-say claims consistently that she was receiving extremely large checks each month. Somehow those checks did not translate into grain and hay in the mare’s bellies. She doesn’t need money, and has been telling others that she will not sell the mare.
Btw- I have posted a message on my Facebook directly to Kate, begging her to give Zena back to me. My user name is my actual name and I am the only one. I welcome new friends and comments on my post offering moral support and adding your request to my own. Maybe if enough of us ask, she will have a change of heart.
I vaguely know Kate through the grapevine (lexington and sport horses is a small community) and she has had a reputation for being a bad pay/questionable horse practices for years. One of the horses that came out of her farm had to spend some time at a vet clinic and was maybe? a BCS of 2. I hope she’s finally run out of business for good, as she has been barn hopping and telling lies to EVERYONE for years…
Why would the authorities leave the 24 yr old mare with her if the poor horse is in such bad shape?
The grass in KY is coming in and the mares are gaining weight. Zena was called a body score of 2… but not in a life threatening situation yet. My fear is that she will gain all summer and Kate will move (she is being evicted) and that will be the last I ever hear of my wonderful old mare. Next winter she will be headed for 25 years. If this happens again… She will probably die.

Wendy, I am so sorry for your pain. What a horrible situation. Can the SPCA seize your mare? Also, was their anything in your sales agreement, verbal or written, implied or warranted that could give you the right to repossess your mare?

Ahhhh well done. I just figured you wouldn’t get a jump suit for a traffic violation. I’m curious why the chick after Kate is so happy to be in jail.

Wendy, I am so sorry for you and Zena. Hoping for the best for her and you.
Wendy - do you have anything in writing, promising to look after your mare? Giving her a wonderful home? Maintaining her in excellent health and condition? ANYTHING like that at all before you agreed to “sell” her for $1.00 and turn over possession and ownership of her?
Maybe a REAL lawyer can chime in here, but I would think if you sold her based on verbal and written promises and commitments given to you, that you would have a legit case to negate the Bill of Sale and the contract selling her
I would think its worth a shot in Small Claims court. Offer up those promises, the SPCA report, the pictures, the data and see if the judge would find in your favor. Its worth a shot IMO - other than a few dollars to file and your time, you really have nothing to lose and a lot to gain by doing so
Good luck

That is a good idea. Not really a big cost to try. You could also have an appraiser there to confirm that in these cases the point of a $1 sale is to give the horse a wonderful retirement home. You traded her real value at the time (more than a dollar) for a life long place to live. I think it would be a really good argument. Did you give her a receipt for the dollar?

Yes, there is a one dollar bill of sale and yes, it was based on her promise to give Zena the best of care… And I have it in writing. I’m going to hope that she comes around due to my public plea for her to release the poor old mare, but if not I will absolutely do whatever it takes to save my beloved Zena. Thankyou, everyone, for your helpful and supportive posts!!!
Thanks for posting the pictures. I am sorry for all you are going through, and I hope you are able to get her back.
Wendy, I can only imagine how your heart must be breaking. I’m so sorry you and your Grand Old Gal are going through this.
Wendy, I am so sorry for what you have to go through. Prayers that you can get your girl back. I cannot even imagine how you must feel. [edit]
