I feel awful for the mares and those who love them. It proves the strong warning to giving away horses, especially aged ones.
Who is is the grey Zena daughter? Does her owner former owner know her current state?
Stuff like this really makes me sick to my stomachā¦and that is an UNDERSTATEMENT.
I feel like I am about to throw up now.
Donāt miss this heading on the broodmare page.
[I][I][B]"We are very much looking forward to the 2014 Foal Crop from these beautiful mares!! "

Absolutely mind boggling⦠yes many of the people involved in this rescue couldnāt sleep at night and felt like throwing up.
I wish this post existed when I sent my mare to her because I would not have sent her there!! My situation was different - my mare was not leased but was sent for treatment at Hagyard & temporarily boarded with Kate. But the situation ended similar - she lost weight & returned to me in much worse shape than she arrived in KY. I really thought mine was an isolated incident & was happy to have Hagyardās watchful eye throughout my horseās time in KY. Now I realize Kate has serious issues & weight loss is a common theme!
It is horrifying that anyone takes animals to āmake moneyā through breeding, and then starves or neglects them. Being sickened by hearing and seeing this abuse, reinforces why I havenāt sold a horse since 1964, and that mare I know, went to a very responsible home.
I will never let anyone have any of my horses. There are stupid, sick-minded people out there! Be full aware of this when and if you sell or give away any horse. It is beyond comprehension that anyone would knowingly starve horses. Humans can be so ignorant, self absorbed, and cruel. Sadly, the animals end up suffering.
VERY few people make money breeding and selling horses. No one should ever expect to make money breeding animals. PLEASE think before you breed, or even acquire an animal. How terribly mindless and stupid to hurt these poor animals. WHY???
I am very sorry for those who trusted this person, I so hope that your mares will be OK. I canāt imagine going through this past winter without food. There isnāt enough misery that can land on this person to equal what she has done to those mares.
The thing that is even scarier is that Kate worked at Hagyard for a whileā¦
āLastly, we ask for help in finding the Owner of one last mare, close to foaling, whoās identity we have just ascertained. Her name is SK SUNNY (Acrobat II/Cantus), barn name POPPY. Her owners might live in SC or TX. She is a flea-bitten gray. Please spread the word so her family is found and Animal Control can be contacted.ā
I just wanted everyone to know that POPPYās owner has been contacted, she was removed from the farm, and has found a safe landing place to live and foal out under EXCELLENT care.
Thatās very good to hear.
I just donāt understand. If money isnāt an issue, [edit]? What condition is her stallion in?
Contrary to what some posts say, money is the major factor with this situation (lack of and poor management of it). At the end of the day, no matter how difficult this situation is, we believe that that the horses that are still at the Kateās farm need to eat. There are still horses there, mares and foals now as well and until everything gets done, these horses are starving.
Some posters have offered to help and I believe that despite how anyone feels about this, I find the offer to help extremely generous and inspiring. So I have set up an account for this at Southern States in Lexington. You can buy Hay and/or grain and they will deliver it to her. She will have no access to it any other way. The manager, Pat, is informed not to do anything but deliver what people order.
Even if it is very temporary, a meal is a meal.
Thank you for your generosity.
Feel free to PM me your orders so I can follow through and make sure that it is taken and delivered. No name or personal info will be mentioned here.

I will not donate to help an abuser feed her animals. I will donate to any organization who takes possession of those animals.
Sadly agree - my understanding is that when we intervene & feed, it makes removal of the horses much more difficult
I have been told by animal control officers that one of the most unfortunate things that can happen is when well-meaning people throw hay over the fence into a field with horses AC trying to remove.
We totally understand and respect both stands on this issue. Not an easy one for us either.
We are trying to help solve the problem but no matter what, it will take time and time is of the essence when it comes to malnourishment of animals that do not have the choice to pick up and go.
The reason why we waited to do this is also because the Animal Control have a couple new emergency cases that have taken priority over Kateās case. There are only 2 AC officers for the county! It is true that AC has an easier time to remove animals when they are in the poorest of conditions.
Every one is free to do as they please with this.
How long are you going to feed these horses for? If forever isnāt the answer then it is delaying the inevitable. Believe me I understand how hard it is to see suffering and have to sit on your hands but enabling is not the answer. Maybe lighting a fire under those two AC officers is and pledging support if they were to act is a better solution?
We totally agree that this is only a band aid on a major cut. We cannot really force the ACs to do anything and upsetting them would not help speed up anything. They already have been very helpful I believe.
Kate does have some resources even if limited and irregular.
Some of these horses she owns 100% which also makes for a different case altogether.
We have to hope that she will learn and do the right thing by these animals. That would be the fastest way.
Is there any way to have AC acknowledge that at this point the horses are being fed through the largesse of others, and not Kate? Can we be reasonably hopeful that she will in fact feed the horses in need with hay/grain that is supplied? What a horrible situation. JumpStart, thanks for doing what you canā¦
Also, is there any idea how many mares/foals still remain there?

Wasnāt Cobra One your stallion originally? What condition is he in?

Thatās what is (allegedly) happening here now since the mares have been picked up. But no one was willing to not repossess (in my opinion) and risk the ladies to let this play itself out with animal control. The local officer has a teeming plate right now (I suppose) and this case was not the higher priority. So now it is even less so. (maybe)
[edit]
The mares took priority with us owners, we couldnāt sacrifice for the citation. Now the issue will arise over the foals. Kate is adamant that they are her babies and that she will be a force to be reckoned with (allegedly)
Wendy ⦠those photos pit my stomach.
Folks I wish that we could have posted a whole pictorial for you and shared other facts but no one wanted to pass hearsay or be put up as the town crier.
and then there are also the legals, but at this point I think all the evidence is pretty much cold hard facts ( or so it would seem). We canāt share what is not our facts.
I already have threatening vms and emails from Kate telling me that she is going to sue us for ruining her business - but Iām sorry Iām missing the part where she ?? did this (or so I would suppose).
And the grandiose delusion where sheād think that this was okay and no one would question? (allegedly, it would seem, in my opinion, I suppose).
Hey Kate you screwed some people who have some pretty big guns if you want to get into a pissing match. (or so it would seem).
Then this on her FB page.
(photo of first foal born this yr)
a friend posts āOMG, you are terrible. We must get that poor emaciated filly out of your ignorant clutches NOW!!! Lmaoā
Kate answers back: āThatās for sure!!! She is definitely being abused lolā
Just wow. How irreverent and stinging to the people that trusted that you would feed and care for their horses.
