gumtree, got your change purse out??
Will be interesting to see how the APs and new stallions pinhook. Definitely some nice horses in this list that I wouldn’t mind owning
How can you track any of these youngster’s race record since many, at this point aren’t named yet? I think it would be fun to pick a few that I like their breeding (which is worth what you’d pay for my opinion  ) and see how they do next year… ie, add to my virtual stable.
I am in love with Justify’s brother by Will Take Charge and Gun Runner’s brother. Both in Session 2 I believe
have to say the 1/2 siste rto Songbird by American Pharoah is LOVELY
I was excited to see her go through. I expected her to sell for much more. Any of our experts here have thoughts on her sale price?
Gulp…
American Pharoah - Indian Charlie mare Kindle colt (hip 91) hammered at $2.2M to Godolphin.
Sold as a weaner last KEENOV for $400K
This one did make gumtree’s pinhook list
Godolphin bought the 2.2M Curlin colt.
Ok, help! Hip 120: MDOx Leslies Lady- RNA at $60k. What happened?
CC’s dam seems to be holding her own. Nice to see a Not For Love daughter doing well as a producer.
In book 1 safe to say it didn’t end up looking the part on the day of the sale. Or it had vet issues. Doesn’t take much to put buyers off these days.Supply even with well bred horses way out strips demand. The market these day is pretty much all or nothing. Lucky to get your production costs back even with a horse that has no vet issues, but doesn’t look the part.
The breeders are friends of mine. I might have to ask.
The colt by Malibu Moon sold for $15,000. The buyer opened at $15,000 and it was hammered down a split second later. As I explained on comments I made with the auction process. The auctioneers have notes on each horse going in the ring of the selected sessions. Note on this colts page probably said, “sell to the first sucker, rather bidder” The consignor is a good friend of mine he’s a total pro. He’s sold a few of the yearlings out of the mare for the breeder. They’ve all sold for peanuts. The breeder is a trooper he has been throwing good money after bad at this mare for years. He bred the mare also
This looked suspect until I saw who bought it. But it still doesn’t make much sense looking at the paper. Usually don’t see 4 dams listed on a $2.2 mil yearling. The pinhooker Peter O’Callaghan is a sharp guy, wheeler and dealer. I would have liked to been invited to his dinner party tonight, lol. He’s Irish and I have been to a few “rang the bell” dinners.
Pin hook list with sales result. Keep in mind, 10% commission, and at least $15-$20,000 in carrying expenses since being purchased. Before the horse walks in the ring. Feel free to check for mistakes, typos. Red means lost money. RNAs yet to see if they make money. Selling privately or at a later sale.

Thanks! The sale is certainly full of good breeding, but Hip 120 looked a star on paper. If you do get more info I’d be interested.
And thanks for some insight on Hip 181. I hope he landed in a good spot!
#120 was a star on paper, but not physically.
gumtree, thank you for the updates.
Sometimes I sure wish I knew why horses that looked like they should sell well didn’t or were RNAd. I know you listed reasons why that might be but on an individual without knowing the connections or having access to the info and vet reports and seeing the horse, just don’t know.
I will admit I’d probably buy on looks more than I should
How did Hip #181 get into Book 1 of the select session? It’s not the worst catalogue page (second dam did OK in producing the dam of Madcap Escapade and Dubai Escapade), but I always thought Book 1s needed to really stand out pedigree and conformation-wise.
My pleasure. Always thought it would be fun to do a seminar, “lecture hall, classroom setting”. As each horse walks into the ring. Talk about, dissect each pedigree page. Each page tells a different story, as does the breeder and consignor. Talk about auctioneer process point out the subtle nuances, tell tails, etc.
Fails to amaze me how people give top dollar for yearlings out mares with big pedigrees, race records that are 15-20 and haven’t produced much and or the best foal/s were bred 10+++ years ago. I would just never feel that lucky. Sure there are the odd mares that produce a top horse at 15-20. But statics show it is a long shot.
All the horses usually look great in the ring, on video esp, even if you are sitting in the ring. The ring handler pretty always keep them moving. The sales company spend a lot of money on lighting engineers. Just like when making a movie “lighting” is and can be everything.
With select sales. Generally “all things are equal”. The horse was a good individuals when it was entered months before. Or looked to be going in the “right direction”. The selection team thought the same. There is no vetting done at that time. Though most breeders will do some surveys on better bred short yearlings. To see if anything needs to be addressed and or know what they are holding. So watching a select sale without seeing the horses has a lot more “rhyme and reason”. Horses that sell below, well below what their page suggest. Generally means some vet issues came up and or the horse went backwards since it was entered.
I liked your comment about the Malibu Moon that was hammered down for $15K seconds after the buyer opened with that
Sell to first sucker… whoops, first bidder.
Seems like the MMs do decent at the races and he’s got a respectable fee $75K S&N. Must have been something ‘wrong’ that didn’t show up in the pedigree.
I could see that depending on the “problem”, maybe a nice chance to pick up a MM (didn’t look at the dam side) at a good price if I can deal with whatever made him less valuable. If his only ‘problem’ was looks, maybe take a risk (although for me, even $15k is a risk
