Keenland September Yearling Sale

Question? I’ve never gone to the Keenland September Yearling sale but this year will be my first. Possibly buying a horse from book 3 or 4 which sell on Saturday thru Tuesday. Can anyone that is familiar with the sale advise when those horses will be on the ground and in their barn ready for inspections. I ask because there’s over 4k horses for sale but only 1100 stalls. Do the book 3 yearlings move in after book 1 is complete. Thanks

Yearlings in the early books (1-3) are on the grounds and available to be seen 2 days ahead of when they sell. In the later books (4-6) it’s usually 1 day. So a horse that sells Saturday, for example, will most likely be available to be seen on Thursday, and definitely on Friday.

Book 3 horses can’t move in until the Book 1 horses are gone, because they (Bk3) will move into the same barns the Bk1 horses had. (Book 4 horses will move into the Book2 barns.) Also, some of the big consignors will move in early (especially for Book1) and some of the smaller consignors don’t show up until later (though that’s usually for books 5-6).

We have bought/sold many yearlings through that sale, so feel free to ask if you have any more questions.

Thank you for the explanation! Good to know that means that book 3 should start coming in Wednesday and Thursday and book 4 definitely on by Friday (dark day)

I should have mentioned that not all Book 3 horses show on Thursday, first because of the logistics of the barn turnover, and second, because the dark day on Friday enables buyers to see more horses. A yearling that sells early on Saturday will probably be on the grounds Thursday (not available to be seen on Wednesday). One that sells on Sunday (also bk3) will more likely be able to be seen on Friday.

Book 4 horses that sell on Monday and Tuesday (the 2nd week of the sale) will ship in Saturday and show on Sunday. They will not be available Friday (and probably not Saturday either.)

They won’t show until the day after they ship either because Keeneland doesn’t want us shipping before 1PM.

Thanks for update. Our horse sells in session 3 of book 2 on Wednesday. I’ll be leaving keenland on Thursday night after session 4. My partner will be at sales for all books. I’m just hoping to physically look at some of book 3 horses on Thursday prior to leaving. Either way should be exciting. Thanks again
