Keeping manes up with electrical tape?

I would like to start keeping my grey mares long mane braided up, I perfer using little strips of electrical tape to secure the braids because it’s a lot less damaging than rubber bands. I’m a little concerned that if some of the tape slips off while she’s turned out she may accidentally eat it while grazing, but rubber bands fall off much easier. Maybe if I wrap it enough it won’t slip off? I like her mane up to keep her neck cool under all of that hair. Let me know what you guys think.

I use it and if you wrap tightly they won’t just fall out. I’ve not had any just fall out, but I do use a fair amount of tape and press the tape well.

Horses are pretty adept at not consuming small objects that they know aren’t feed. Mine can eat their entire dinner and leave one small dried up hackberry berry the size of a pea in their bucket. So I wouldn’t worry about her eating it.

I’ve heard of using electrical tape. You can get it in all kinds of fun colors too. I am just a yarn person. If I had a really long maned horse, I’d use a foot long piece of yarn at the end of the braid, like I was braiding a mane for a horseshow - incorporate in last 3 or 4 inches, then tie it off. Wool yarn is fairly biodegradable, electrical tape, not so much.
