Kent & Masters/Thorowgood Compact GP

Just how compact are these saddles? My horse has a short back (17-17.5" of weight bearing area). I normally ride in an 18" seat, but I might be able to squeeze into a 17.5" (I’ve lost 50lbs since the last time I rode English) so I’m wondering if it would be short enough, assuming it fits otherwise. Any experiences with these saddles would be appreciated.

I have an Thorogood for my gypsy cob. The seat feels the same to me as my other 17.5 saddle but the weight bearing area on the horse’s back is shorter. I can’t tell just by looking at it but the horse certainly goes better in it. The key for me was getting the saddle fitter to try several options on her and that showed me which was better.

I sell Thorowgoods and Kent and Masters. They all tend to run shorter than other brands and they are your best bet without going more expensive.

That’s encouraging to hear from both of you! The K&M is at the very top of my budget, and I don’t have any tack stores or saddle fitters within hundreds of miles of me, so I have to do a lot of research online.

Both Jen at www.thesaddlegeek.com and Rich at Trumbull Mountain have been great to work with.

I just got a K&M dressage and jump at the suggestion of Jen and purchased through Rich. Cannot recommend enough.
