Kentucky 2025

is that the horse that “fell” but somehow regained his feet without shoulder/hip touching the ground?

I’m laughing pretty hard at the announcer with the Phantom of the Opera joke.

Isn’t that the horse that went down onto his knees after a bit of a belly flop at the triple bar going uphill yesterday? It’s sort of a miracle that he came through that unscathed.

Yep, he was the one who went all the way down to his belly, then picked himself back up and continued like nothing happened.

No flag suit for Boyd today, darn. :joy:

I had a similar thought.

I have to say that Boyd looked quite sound for somebody who went around that course three times yesterday.

Extra remarkable considering that he could hardly walk after having a bunch of vet work done on himself at the start of the winter. I saw him at a clinic, and he was really hobbling around at that time. I think that was only about five months ago now.

I like that Jess Phoenix trotted on the long rein rather than holding below the chin.

they are all supposed to. Emily looked really pretty with Corvette!

Having watched the video of that, it’s not a good look for eventing that the horse was allowed to continue. Even if it didn’t technically meet the criteria for a fall.

How tall is Sorocaima? He looks massive on the jog strip.

Oh, that’s interesting! I’ve watched a zillion trot outs for endurance (I volunteer a lot as a vet scribe), and the general guidance is to give them their head and let them balance as they trot. I wasn’t sure how eventers approached it (I’m a fan but far too wimpy to do anything but trot through the cross country field, going well around the jumps )

They are supposed to do the trot with a loopy rein to give the horses their heads, but I think eventers get a bit of a pass because a lot of them would be flying kites without a little extra control.

Haha, totally understand! I’ve been surprised how mellow this bunch is looking.

they are SUPPOSED to go long enough to see you aren’t holding their heads for lameness. I love to see the brave ones on the buckle!

OK, I feel like the tassels on the ankle boots are not as useful for distracting from the horse’s jog since they stay a little bit below your eye level when you’re watching the legs on the horse. Lol.

The 2nd inspection is usually much quieter than the first since they’ve gone through XC by now. But as it is 47 degrees down there, that’s sometimes enough. Plus, fit event horses lol

I have to say I was pretty surprised by that yesterday.

they would probably be chasing the feistier ones down somewhere on XC if given a long rein in the jog.

Maybe that’s why they jog them in somewhat of an enclosed space. Although obviously any of those horses could hop out over that fence if they decided to leave town.

Only Falco spun from both inspections, and overall a pretty happy and not too tired looking group!

i would have liked to see him continue at a trot for at least 10 seconds before carrying on, to better assess soundness.
